Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Liles.
Megan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I took an unconventional path into my role as the Head of School of Guidepost Montessori at Flower Mound. I knew early on that I wanted to be a teacher, and I pursued that passion in college, earning my Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from the University of Texas at Austin. I taught music and theatre lessons for ten years before looking into new challenges during the pandemic. A new preschool was opening in my neighborhood, and while I was at first skeptical about working at a “daycare,” it was clear right away that this was a school and not a daycare. I absolutely fell in love with the experience of helping lay the foundation of a child’s educational journey, and I am so excited to now be a part of the Guidepost Flower Mound community.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not always been a smooth road. Teaching through the pandemic was full of new daily challenges. I often remind myself that I was able to teach music virtually, in parking lots, and behind masks for a whole year, so after that, I can accomplish anything. Moving into an educational leadership role was its own challenge, pushing me to quickly develop new skills, all while balancing the needs of our children, families, and staff. There were definitely moments of uncertainty, but those struggles ultimately prepared me to lead with empathy, clarity, and purpose today.
As you know, we’re big fans of Guidepost Montessori at Flower Mound. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Guidepost Montessori at Flower Mound, we serve children from infancy through early childhood, focusing on building a strong foundation during the most important years of development. What I love most about our school is the true sense of community, centered on our authentic Montessori curriculum and partnering with parents.
What sets us apart is the intentionality behind everything we do. Our classrooms are calm, purposeful, and designed to meet each child where they are, helping them grow in independence and instill a true love of learning that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives.
What I’m most proud of is the community we’ve built. Families often say they can feel it right away. This is a school where they are known and supported. For me, that’s what matters most: creating an environment where children thrive and families feel at home.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I have lived in Dallas for nearly 25 years (that’s a little scary to say!), and it is remarkable to compare the metroplex I grew up in to the one we live in today. I love the diversity and seeing that continual growth, but the traffic growing along with it can be a pain. Although I am a DFW native, I have only recently become familiar with Flower Mound, and I’ve loved getting to know this community. It feels very tight-knit and has almost a small town vibe, even though it is right in the middle of all the bustle of the city.
