Life & Work with Ashleigh Brennan of Dripping Springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashleigh Brennan.

Hi Ashleigh , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
HI! I began my journey in photography out of College, my camera was a present from my mom. I started with nature photography then created a page and my friends began to ask for photoshoots. It turned into hangouts, to dressing up and feeling beautiful, to simply learning more about one another. Connecting on a new level. Sharing deeper meaning and why expression mattered. A few years passed and I moved back to the Austin area in 2019. As a self-made, self-taught learner and artist – things began to pick up and I thought of ways to involve the community. I began to go around vintage shops and stores to use and style within shoots to tag storefronts or local business. Little did I know, seven years later, the whole world would turn into a self-market through media. Now, I am ready to branch out and expand more than ever. Now that society is more plugged in than I ever imagined, I want to use the internet for good. For meaningful expression, raw honesty, and the real truth. The truth that comes from people not the TV.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
HA! A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor. I think I have truly hit almost every bump in the road you can imagine. From my car not starting to get to work to not having one at all and walking through the rain. To almost breaking my wrist and making sure I showed up for a double the next day to pay for a new phone and keep the camera rolling – seriously. Throughout, in the moments that I felt like I wasn’t strong enough to keep going, I’d be thankful to have my health to walk in the rain. I’d start shifting my perspective to see the good. To be thankful that I was still able to make the most of what I had. I started taking notes of what I was grateful for. Life has pivotal seasons, some you don’t want to read, but you have to. The good is still waiting in the next chapter even if you haven’t gotten there yet. Because of the many versatile challenges, it shaped and humbled my path. To keep it light, someone next to you could be suffering and all they want to do is transmute that pain into art, for it to become one of their superpowers. Never. Give. Up. I promise you, you will look back and know why even when you are unsure. Keep the faith. I am living proof that God has a plan. I am living proof that I didn’t need an audience, I needed faith and my camera.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work as a freelance artist – many hidden talents with lots of hats. However, my speciality is photography and video editing. I love the post production process, whether it’s for content or a personal project – it all matters to me. I am known for my whimsical nature and eye. I have a natural ability to point and shoot and bring a vision to life that I wan’t even looking for. Sometimes it’s by rare chance, sometimes it’s by strategy. I am most proud of why I started and that was to make women feel comfortable in an environment that was shot, styled, and edited by another woman. Side note: I welcome all clients but at the time, that was my purpose, still is. I want every soul to feel within their own body, it’s simply a capsule. I am proud of how far I have come and how much I have given to the art world – I do not wish to be seen, I wish to be felt. I am set apart by melding my internal and external in both business, balance, and expression. My editing sets me apart as well but at the moment, I am choosing a more natural approach but I can always bring my funky aesthetic edits back when the set or project feels right.

What matters most to you?
Freedom. Freedom of choice, expression, speech, and media to name a few. Freedom allows us the ability to keep our melting pot a melting pot. Every single soul deserves to be heard (within reason of respect-this is a great example in itself of how tricky and sticky communication can be) and every single person on the planet deserves love. We are the epitome of hypocrisy because we are all multifaceted humans, who change, evolve, and grow. I wish people could look deeper within themselves and detach from the world’s influences that we’ve grown accustomed to. Create your own identity, traits, and values without so much outer noise. I truly believe that finding your own voice and self is what gives you the understanding to connect with all types of people from all types of places. Whether you relate or not. I’ll leave it at that.
