Hidden Gems: Meet Lacey Wright of Wright Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacey Wright.

Hi Lacey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I decided to major in psychology in college during my senior year in high school. After graduating with my Bachelors, pursuing my Doctorate felt like the next natural step. Early in my training I had a vision of creating a space where people could feel safe and be themselves to further their healing. In 2014, I took the leap and opened my practice, Wright Wellness, as a solo provider. I crossed paths with a therapist in training and she joined me as my first addition to the team. Her trust ignited my desire to continue to expand and further reform the mental health treatment experience for both patients and our team. From there I have grown the practice slowly and added professionals with different expertise and new services along the way to reach as many people as we can. I plan to continue to add more in the coming years.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being a small business owner is hard! Juggling the frequent demands alongside raising children, taking care of pets, and regular life responsibilities can be quite overwhelming at times.

Working in healthcare, mental health in particular, is especially challenging and continues to be an area of frequent change. The stigma around mental health also remains and creates an almost constant battle, especially with insurance companies. We have to fight more often than we should to provide very necessary and valuable treatment.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My individual areas of focus have evolved over the years, with my specialty now being trauma, specifically complex trauma. Trauma is not always the big events, sometimes it is a thousand papercuts. Our past shapes us, especially relationships, and being able to understand how that influences our present life struggles is essential when change is needed. At the practice, we have professionals that work with trauma as well and also a variety of other specialties.

I highly value learning and consistently keep up with the most current research and recommendations in the field. I want to share what I learn with my patients to continue to make the biggest impact. The latest research emphasizes the role of the body in mental health and trauma. This understanding is the reason I have added various services to the practice in recent years, including yoga and massage therapy.

Throughout my journey, I have been most proud of my persistence. I am not afraid of failure, and I am willing to have a voice where others cannot. We are all human and deserve to feel safe and connected. I will continue to fight the good fight to help make that a reality.

What matters most to you?
Helping others return to a feeling of safety and learn to be themselves again is incredibly fulfilling. I have the privilege to hold space for people while they share their most painful experiences. Being a part of the healing process and seeing patients achieve long awaited goals is awe-inspiring. And because I experience honest, vulnerable, interactions daily, I can see clearly that we all have so much more in common with one another than we realize.
