Conversations with Cindy N’Kele

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy N’Kele.

Hi Cindy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi, I’m Cindy, born and raised in the Dallas area. I’ve always been drawn to travel, culture, and food—anything that allows me to experience the world in a deeper, more meaningful way. That curiosity started early and even led me to become bilingual in Italian, which I began learning in 2008 using Rosetta Stone before briefly living in Abruzzo, Italy in 2010.

Ten years ago this May, I launched Foreign Fresh & Fierce as a creative outlet to share my love for fashion and travel. Friends had always come to me for advice on how to travel smart—finding ways to experience luxury without the luxury price tag—so naturally, that became a core part of my content. I like to describe my style as “budget luxury”: elevated experiences made accessible, whether domestic or international.

For years, I balanced content creation with a full-time job, traveling whenever I could—especially spending summers in Europe. My content around destinations like Italy and Greece began gaining traction as I shared how to travel like a local, highlighting hidden gems and practical tips.

Even before it became popular, I was also passionate about showcasing local & Texas travel back in 2016 where I also focused on Texas staycations and nearby destinations like Marfa, the Hill Country, Fredericksburg wineries, and even White Sands, New Mexico—showing that you don’t have to go far to create a meaningful escape. Everything shifted during COVID when I was laid off from my full-time job. What initially felt like a setback became the turning point that pushed me into content creation full-time.

While travel has always been my foundation, wine became a deeper focus after my first press trip to Abruzzo, Italy in 2023—this time centered entirely around wine. That experience completely changed my perspective. I was immersed in the passion, history, and craftsmanship behind winemaking in a way that felt far more personal and educational than my previous Texas winery visits. It sparked a desire to truly understand wine on a deeper level.

That trip led to additional invitations to wine regions like Bordeaux, France and the Mosel region of Germany, further fueling my curiosity. I began approaching wine more intentionally—studying it, refining my palate, and developing a greater appreciation for the nuances behind each bottle.

With my wine content today, I blend both wine education and wine travel because I’ve found that experiences are what truly draw people into wine. It’s not just about what’s in the glass—it’s about where it comes from, the story behind it, and how it fits into real life. I aim to present wine education in a way that feels engaging and relatable rather than overly technical or intimidating. While I respect the depth of the industry, I also recognize that many consumers can feel overwhelmed by heavy jargon, so I focus on sharing what I’ve learned in a way that feels natural and inclusive—often weaving in my own past misconceptions because I know how many people are navigating the same questions.

That can look like breaking down how to shop for wine at places like Aldi, explaining the difference between “Extra Dry” and “Brut” on a sparkling label, or even adding a bit of humor—like questioning why wineries sometimes serve potato chips at a tasting like they’re on the “struggle bus”. At the same time, I still make space for more technical insights for those within the wine industry or anyone looking to deepen their knowledge. It’s about creating content that meets people where they are—whether they’re just starting to explore wine or already well-versed—and making the experience feel both informative and enjoyable.

In 2024, I decided to take that passion seriously and began pursuing formal wine education and eventually getting my WSET 1 certification in 2025. That same evolution led me to expand my content, and in early 2025, I launched The Pour Decisions—a dedicated wine and spirits segment of my platform where I blend education with approachability. As someone who has always loved mixology, it felt like a natural extension of my brand.
That year marked a major milestone in my career. I was honored to become a 2025 brand ambassador for Riunite Wines—a full-circle moment, as it was one of the first brands that introduced me to red wine. Shortly after, I was invited to attend the Vino Influencer World Awards in Spain, where I was named a Top 5 nominee in wine marketing. I was also nominated for the Italy Ambassador Awards for travel.

While I didn’t take home the awards, those recognitions meant so much—especially as validation of the direction I was growing in. I’m excited to share that I’ve just been invited back for the 2026 Vino Influencer Awards in Spain in September and I’m looking forward to continuing to grow within the global wine space.

Today, my platform reflects all the things I’ve always loved—travel, wine and spirits, fashion, beauty, wellness, and even DIY home projects. I’ve never wanted to be boxed into one niche because life isn’t just one thing—and neither is my content. It’s about creating a lifestyle that feels elevated, curious, and accessible all at once.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but each challenge has shaped how I move and grow within this space.

The influencer industry has expanded significantly over the years, especially in a city like Dallas where growth has been rapid. With that growth naturally comes the “competitive spirits”. I’ve noticed a shift from when the community felt more collaborative—where creators openly shared tips, supported one another, and built genuine connections—to a space that can sometimes feel more guarded. There’s a stronger sense of individual focus now, and at times, less openness than there once was.

That’s been an adjustment for me because I’ve always approached this space with a community mindset. In the past, I even organized blogger meetups that brought together creators from all backgrounds, because I truly believe there’s room for everyone to succeed. I’ve always been someone who shares resources, offers guidance, and celebrates others’ wins—and while that hasn’t always been reciprocated, it’s something I’ve chosen to stay true to.

Along the way, I’ve also learned that not every interaction will align with your expectations. There have been moments where I’ve met creators I admired, only to experience a disconnect in person. Those situations taught me an important lesson: to not internalize how others show up, and to stay grounded in who I am regardless of the environment.

Another challenge I’ve faced is navigating the industry’s continued emphasis on follower count as a measure of value. Being under 50K, I’ve found that I sometimes have to advocate more strongly for my worth—especially in brand partnerships. While brands often recognize and appreciate my storytelling and content quality, that hasn’t always translated equally in compensation. Over time, I’ve become more confident in communicating the full scope of what I bring as a creator—from concept development to shooting, editing, and delivering a complete vision.

Ultimately, these experiences have helped me develop a thicker skin and a clearer sense of boundaries. I’ve become more intentional about where I invest my time and energy, choosing opportunities and relationships that align with my values and support my growth—not just professionally, but personally as well.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At the core, I’m a content creator and storyteller specializing in travel, wine and spirits, and lifestyle. Through my platform, Foreign Fresh & Fierce, I create content that blends elevated experiences with real-life accessibility—whether that’s destination guides, wine education, or curated lifestyle moments.

The name Foreign Fresh & Fierce really defines everything I do:

Foreign represents my curiosity and global perspective—I’ve always been drawn to experiencing cultures beyond what’s familiar, from travel to music, film, and food.

Fresh reflects my openness—I’m constantly evolving, learning, and approaching experiences with both an open mind and an open palate.

Fierce speaks to my confidence and presence—especially through my fashion and the way I show up in my content, unapologetically as myself.

While my platform spans multiple lifestyle pillars, what I’m most known for is my ability to tell a story in a way that feels immersive and intentional. I put a great deal of thought into every piece of content I create—from the initial concept to the final edit. My background in dance and choreography plays a big role in how I approach video, especially reels. I naturally think in terms of rhythm, timing, and movement—matching visuals to the emotion, lyrics, or climax of a song to create something that feels cohesive and engaging.

I also spend a significant amount of time researching before trips or collaborations so that each piece of content has a clear narrative. One of my guiding principles is this: if someone were to watch my video on mute, with no caption, could they still understand the story I’m telling? That level of intentionality is something I take a lot of pride in.

In terms of what I’m most proud of, it’s the reputation I’ve built—both within the industry and among my peers. While I may not always be formally listed or ranked in local publications, my work has created its own recognition. At events, I’m often recognized for my content and style, and I’ve even had moments of being recognized out in public. Combined with the international nominations I’ve received, those experiences have been incredibly affirming.

I’m also proud of the way I’ve shown up for others in this space. I’ve always been someone who shares knowledge, supports fellow creators, and contributes to the community in a meaningful way.

What ultimately sets me apart is the level of intention behind my work. I don’t just create content to post—I create with purpose, with story, and with a vision for how it connects with the audience. It’s that combination of creativity, strategy, and authenticity that defines my brand.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
As I’ve stepped into a new chapter in life, chaoter 40, I’ve found myself sharing more of my skincare journey. In a world that often feels centered around quick fixes like Botox and fillers, I like to offer a more balanced perspective. I believe in aging gracefully—embracing the beauty of expression and natural change—while also being open to products and treatments that help you feel your best.

For me, it’s about not feeling pressured to chase perfection, but instead finding confidence in a routine that supports both self-care and self-acceptance.
