Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ $ickk.
Hi DJ $ickk, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started making music out of a real passion for expression and storytelling. Growing up, I was heavily influenced by artists like Tech N9ne, 2Pac, and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, which shaped both my sound and my mindset when it comes to music. What began as just creating and experimenting eventually turned into something more serious as I found my own voice and consistency.
Over time, I’ve focused on developing my sound, building my brand, and staying consistent with releases and visuals. I’ve worked on projects like In $ickk We Trust and continued evolving into where I am now with In $ickk We Trust 2. Right now, I’m in a phase where everything is leveling up from the music to the visuals to how I present myself as an artist.
I’m still growing, but I’m locked in on taking things to the next level and reaching a wider audience while staying true to who I am.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like most independent artists, I’ve had to figure out a lot on my own, whether that’s recording, marketing, or just understanding the business side of music. There were times where growth felt slow, or I’d put a lot into a project and not see the results I expected right away.
I’ve also dealt with moments of self-doubt and trying to stay consistent when things aren’t always clicking. Balancing life, work, and music can be a challenge too, especially when you’re investing your own time and money into everything.
But honestly, those struggles helped shape me. They forced me to stay disciplined, keep improving my sound, and take my craft more seriously. Now I look at those moments as part of the process, they built the foundation for where I’m headed.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an independent artist who specializes in blending hip-hop and R&B with a unique, high-energy but also melodic sound. I focus a lot on versatility, I can tap into aggressive rap, storytelling, or smoother, more emotional tracks depending on the vibe. That balance is a big part of what defines my music.
I’m known for my consistency and creativity, especially with my projects like In $ickk We Trust and In $ickk We Trust 2. I don’t just focus on the music, I pay attention to the full experience, from visuals to branding, making sure everything connects and feels intentional.
What I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come as an independent artist, building everything from the ground up and continuing to level up with each release. It’s not just about putting songs out, it’s about growth, discipline, and really sharpening my craft.
What sets me apart is my mindset and my ability to bridge different styles. I’m not boxed into one sound, and I’m always pushing myself to evolve while still staying true to who I am. I bring both energy and substance, and I think that combination is what really connects with people.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I’d say I’m more blessed than lucky. There have definitely been moments where things lined up at the right time, meeting the right people or getting certain opportunities—but I don’t take that lightly. I look at it as blessings that came from staying consistent and putting in the work.
I’ve also had situations that didn’t go my way or felt like setbacks, but even those taught me something and helped me grow. So I don’t really focus on luck, I focus on staying disciplined, improving, and trusting the process.
For me, it’s about continuing to work like nothing is guaranteed, while still being grateful for every opportunity that comes my way. That mindset keeps me grounded and hungry at the same time.
