Conversations with EMELIN RODRIGUEZ

Today we’d like to introduce you to EMELIN RODRIGUEZ.

Hi EMELIN, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m Emelin Rodríguez, a proud Latina entrepreneur behind PlayroomTX.
PlayroomTX was inspired by my niece’s first birthday. My love for children grew even more with her birth, and about three years ago, while planning her celebration, I was looking for a soft play setup that felt safe, beautiful, and aesthetic for babies and young children. I quickly realized it was not easy to find something that truly met those expectations.
That experience inspired me to start this business with my husband. We began little by little, investing in the right equipment and learning how to create a special experience for families.
What started as a simple idea soon became something bigger. Today, PlayroomTX is a party rental business built with love, care, and the desire to create joyful spaces for children and their families. We are now planning to open our first brick-and-mortar location in early 2027.
And this is only the beginning.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the main obstacles we faced was the lack of specific knowledge about this type of business. When we purchased all the equipment, we realized it was much larger and more complex than we had anticipated, which even led us to buy a van to be able to transport it.

However, we were able to adapt quickly. We solved each challenge along the way, adjusting to the needs of the business and finding practical solutions for every obstacle that came up.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a dentist by profession, graduated in Venezuela, and today I am focused on the development and growth of several projects alongside my husband. Although my background is in healthcare, my path has evolved into entrepreneurship, where I have found a new way to grow professionally.

Like many immigrants, my beginnings in this country were not easy. I worked cleaning hotels, in restaurants, in a law office, and also as a dental assistant, while adapting to a new language, a new culture, and a completely different life.

In 2018, we started our first business selling Venezuelan “pan de jamón,” something small but very meaningful to me. From there, we continued growing, and later we opened a pizzeria in Allen, Texas, which allowed us to fully enter the restaurant industry. Currently, we are in the process of opening our new restaurant, Casa Pio, in Addison, a project that represents an important step forward for us.

At the same time, we also developed PlayRoomTX, a soft play business focused on creating safe, beautiful, and memorable spaces for children and their families.

I believe what defines me the most is my ability to adapt and keep moving forward. I arrived in this country eight years ago without knowing anyone, without fully speaking the language, and without completely understanding the culture, but I never allowed that to stop me.

I am very proud of everything we have built. It has not been a perfect journey, but it has been one full of learning, effort, and growth.

What truly sets me apart is my resilience and my ability to turn challenges into opportunities. Today, I apply that mindset to everything I do, always with the intention of continuing to grow and building something meaningful and lasting.

What’s next?
Right now, we’re focused on growing our business and preparing to open our first physical location in 2027. It’s a big step for us, and something we’re really excited about as we continue building and expanding what we’ve started.
