Rising Stars: Meet 4Factorial of DFW, Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to 4Factorial.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The band first met at the University of Texas at Arlington. Brayzon and Anthony were in an engineering class together and decided to study with one another. After a while, they got tired of studying and found out both of them play an instrument and decided to make a band together, with Brayzon as the lead guitarist and Anthony on the drums. The UTA central library has a studio room, so they’d practice in there sometimes and that’s where they eventually met Madison. They heard her singing and playing guitar and invited her to be a part of the band. Later on, the group was looking for a bassist and Bray ended up finding Ayden working on music in the library studio as well. The lineup was completed from that point.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course not everything has been the smoothest, but nothing worth doing is going to be without obstacles. Most of us are college students—actually three of us are students, two of us work full time, and there’s only four of us total so we’ll let you do that math—so making time for studying, classes, work, and the band can definitely be a struggle. We’re all super passionate about this band, though, so we all make sure to dedicate time for it.

With our first show, our drummer had knee surgery a few weeks beforehand so we had to rush to find an interim. We managed to find this awesome hip-hop drummer named TKells (Troy Kelly). We asked him less than an hour after we met him if he could fill in and he agreed. Rock music wasn’t in his comfort zone and he didn’t have a lot of time to prepare, but he put in the work to learn our full set and did a fantastic job.

For our most recent show we did in March, we actually set that up ourselves. It was only our 3rd show ever and only one of us (Ayden) has been in a band before so there was definitely a learning curve there for the rest of us. We collected the bands that were going to be on the bill, scheduled the run of the show, booked the venue, got the photographer, promoted the event, and handled tickets. It was stressful figuring it all out, but it was so worth it since everyone had a great time. We got about double the crowd we were hoping for, everyone in the audience showed up and showed out for every band on the bill, and the other bands even complimented us on how organized the whole event was. It was difficult, but it was extremely rewarding in the end and we learned a lot from it.

We used to go to this studio space to rehearse at, but they ended up closing that location because they were in the process of moving to a different one, so we were out of a practice space for a bit. Luckily, Anthony’s parents let us practice at their house and they make us amazing dinners every time, so that turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We’re a new rock band entering the scene, so we’re still experimenting with our sound. We each have a different set of influences, so that definitely helps when it comes to making music more unique. A lot of times, people will try to sound exactly like the artists who inspire them. What’s the point of that? People could just listen to the more famous artists. Our diversity in taste helps to make sure that we don’t sound like “this or that band”, we sound like 4Factorial.

We wouldn’t make music we’re not proud of. Every note, every chord, every lyric has a piece of us in it that we want to share with everyone. We make sure that an audience would love every second of what we do because we make sure that WE love every second of what we do. Whether in the studio or on the stage, you can guarantee that we put our best foot forward.

We’re in the process of recording our first EP right now. We’re hoping to have it out by the end of the year, but we’re really excited to show everyone more of that 4Factorial sound.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters to us most is having fun and making art that we and others enjoy. We want to be authentic and build a community through just being ourselves whether that is on social media, on stage, or through our music, we’ll always be 4Factorial.
