Community Highlights: Meet Whitney Sylvain of Satsuma Swimwear & Whitsaidso Style

Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Sylvain.

Hi Whitney, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Whitney may not consider herself a Texas girl yet, but she’s a Southern girl at heart. Born and raised in Louisiana, she later relocated to Dallas after feeling a deep, intuitive pull while living in the energetic world of New York City.

Her connection to New York began early, following a 2016 summer internship at Ralph Lauren. That experience solidified what she had already begun to feel, that she was meant to return to the city and build her future there. Whitney’s love for fashion started young; at just seven years old, she declared her desire to be in the fashion world and has been in pursuit of that vision ever since.

She went on to study Fashion Marketing & Design at the Savannah College of Art and Design, refining her creative eye and beginning her journey. After graduating, Whitney spent five years in New York, immersing herself in the industry and gaining experience across multiple sides of the fashion industry.

She contributed to Sheen Magazine as a fashion writer, covering style, beauty, and cultural events throughout NYC. Her corporate career expanded into trend forecasting and e-commerce styling, where she played a role in launching Amazon’s first Personal Shopper program. Along the way, she gained freelance experience working on commercial, film, and editorial sets as a wardrobe stylist, bringing fashion to life behind the scenes.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of Whitney’s biggest challenges as a swimwear founder has been navigating rising production costs while maintaining a lean, intentional approach to launching new collections.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Whitney currently works in advertising while continuing to grow her e-commerce brand, Satsuma Swimwear. Founded in 2020, the brand encourages women to embrace their duality. It was built on the belief that women can be two things at once, both sexy and sweet. As founder and CEO, she brought this vision to life with the launch of her debut collection, Forever in Sunset, in 2022, designed for the contemporary woman.

In addition to her work in advertising and entrepreneurship, Whitney is a style content creator and YouTuber, where she teaches women how to confidently wear and style their clothes. She has collaborated with brands such as Revolve, Spanx, TA3, Amazon Fashion and more. In 2024, she expanded her platform by launching her “Style Confidence” e-book series, offering step-by-step guidance to help women dress for their body type with clarity and intention.

Through her growing public speaking platform, Whitney uplifts women and girls to access deeper levels of confidence through style and self-expression. She believes that when you look good, you feel good, and she sees it as her calling to help women cultivate greater self-love, confidence, and personal power through the way they present themselves to the world.

What makes you happy?
Happiness for Whitney is rooted in her home, where she invests time in creating a beautiful, cozy, and inspiring environment that she shares through her content series, “Building a Stylish Life.” She finds joy in exploring Dallas and experiencing new spaces, from social outings and personal development events to restaurants, conferences, volunteering opportunities, and sporting events, and she looks forward to being invited into more of those moments. One of her favorite creative outlets is producing lifestyle content as she discovers new places in the city, showing her audience how she gets dressed for different occasions, always reminding them that “every good day starts with a good outfit.”
