Meet Joanna Gonzalez of Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanna Gonzalez.

Hi Joanna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey as a cosplayer began at the height of the 2020 pandemic. It started as a silly little hobby to pass the time on the weekends. I have always been a big fan of all things anime as well as a few comic book characters, but was always too scared to begin until we were shut inside for such a long time. Social media became a big part of my life instantly and helped me grow my community to what it is today. Cosplay has opened many doors for me and has led me to becoming a social media manager for an up and coming anime convention. The friends I have made and the projects I have been able to lead and execute have filled my life with immense satisfaction. I have even been able to include my son in this hobby and bond with him in a new way.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like all things worthwhile it was not a smooth road. I struggled with overcoming my social anxieties, not being afraid to put myself out there, and placing too much importance on the numbers which caused creative blocks. I learned the hard way that numbers did not equate to any personal value, and I started focusing on the aspects of cosplay that made me feel more fulfilled! I love working with other cosplayers to create various photoshoots

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in social media content for the most part, cosplay collaborations, I dabble in tutorials for posing and crafting as well.
I like to give back to the community by volunteering with a wonderful group called Capes For Kindness!
I am most proud when I am able to execute a successful collaboration. Everytime I am in the middle of the collaboration I take a step back and just take in all of the creatives that gathered for the event.
I am set apart by my transparency. I am not afraid to disclose the good, the bad, and the ugly sides of my cosplay journey.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Do not be afraid to pursue your hobbies, it’s never too late to learn new things and find new passions.
