Meet Genesis Casillas of Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Genesis Casillas.

Hi Genesis, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Ever since I was 15 years old, I loved doing my friend’s hair, either braid it or hairstyling, spending so much time on Instagram and following other professionals and practicing. As I graduated high school I shifted away from hair, fast forward to 21, I am pregnant, my husband made me a stay at home mom which I am grateful for, I had time to focus on what I really wanted to do, which I always knew it was hair, so I bought a mannequin head from Amazon and I was just practicing.

A year later in 2023 I came across a free cosmetology school for pregnant women and moms of children under 3 years old. At this point I had my 8 month old son and I just knew I had to do it because it was an opportunity for me to grow and obtain my cosmetology license at no cost. They pushed me to get out there and taught me ways to make money for myself even though I already had the full support and was being provided for by my husband. My cosmetology school first focused on braiding so I was a really good braider, I started by offering braids and hairstyles for $50 or less, my braiding clients were keeping me busy during the time I was in school (sooo grateful).

In early 2024 someone needed help with hairstyling a bridal party and I jumped in, got over my fear of being shy and offered her my help. After that experience I knew doing bridal hairstyling was what I wanted to do. I immediately stopped advertising braids and I dipped one foot first into the bridal hairstyling world. I invested in business courses by other successful bridal stylists to learn how the clients think, how to attract them, how to grow in my business overall. I booked a few brides & clients for 2025 and I have been assisting makeup artist, Rosemarie Guino-o, with her bridal parties since then as well and we are booked and busy! Now early 2026 I dipped my other foot in the bridal hairstyling world (now I am fully IN) and I invested and built my own website, finished setting up my booking system to make my brides experience seamless, invested in luxury hair products for even better results and I am ready to attract my ideal brides!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wish it was a smooth road! HAHA! It’s just never easy especially if you don’t know anyone in the beauty or wedding industry to begin with. While I was in school my son was going from babysitter to babysitter and I was missing school when I didn’t have anyone to watch him since my husband worked during the day. A year later I was pregnant with my second baby then decided to dip into the wedding industry so I missed out on peak wedding season of Fall 2024 and then Spring of 2025 so I didn’t work this long, which was preventing me from gathering content and more experience with brides. It felt like I was just missing out while every other professional was booked & busy. I was a stay at home mom though so that actually bought me time to plan out how I was going to attract my brides. Which was also not easy because I had a 2 year old, I was pregnant, then I had my daughter and I was getting more inquiries, so I was having to do more for my business with no time to do it because now I have two kids, and I’m running around trying to maintain the home. Here I am now, still emailing my brides in between diaper changes, nursing, snack breaks, cooking, cleaning, etc. Lucky for me I love hard work! My mom raised 3 of us as a single mom, and with 2 jobs, is what always gave me that drive and motivation to become whatever I wanted to be, I just feel like I owe it to her because she worked very hard for us, now it’s my turn. While it has been very hard to keep up with everything, I am still grateful that I get to be home with my kids and still be able to run my business.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I offer luxury bridal hairstyling services and specialize in long lasting Glam Waves.

I think what sets me apart from other bridal hairstylists in my area is that I only do hairstyling, I do not do both hair and makeup, or color and cuts services, I rather shift all of my expertise, energy and focus into bridal hair to make sure it is perfect. Another thing that sets me apart from other wedding vendors and bridal stylists is that I loveee communicating with my brides all of the time, I am not the type of vendor to just book them, provide services the day of and send an invoice. I love sending them checklists of things they might need, hair tips, product recommendations, extensions recommendations, just anything they might need from me. I often see posts made by brides where they are concerned they haven’t heard from their wedding vendor since they got booked and I try to be the opposite just to make sure I make one part of their wedding planning easier on them because it is already stressful enough.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My husband has been my biggest supporter through it all, and of course has struggled along with me. My mom as well, she’s the reason I don’t struggle with child care for my kids, if I have a weekday wedding she’s there 100%, it’s just a huge help. My brides are what makes my business, without them booking me I would have just given up. Also working with makeup artist Rosemarie Guino-o and her beautiful brides! She made sure I was booked plentyyy in 2025 after my maternity leave, besides the couple of brides I had. I feel like I got a headstart because of her, I was able to gain the confidence, experience and content I needed to go all in on my business.
