Life & Work with Mysti Cozart Smith of Dallas-Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mysti Cozart Smith.

Hi Mysti , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into the entertainment and creative arts industry has really been built on a lifelong passion for storytelling, music, creativity, and faith. From a young age, I was drawn to creating — whether it was writing stories, performing music, developing characters, or imagining cinematic worlds. Creativity was never just a hobby for me; it was something deeply rooted in who I am.

Over the years, that passion evolved into a career spanning writing, producing, directing, songwriting, and developing original film and television properties. I began building projects independently, learning every aspect of the creative process along the way — from screenwriting and story development to branding, visual presentation, music integration, and production strategy. What started as a creative dream eventually became the foundation for my company, COZY Faith & Family Films.

As I continued developing projects, I realized there was a strong need and growing audience for emotionally driven entertainment that could still be cinematic, modern, and commercially appealing while remaining rooted in hope, heart, faith, and strong storytelling. That realization helped shape my creative voice and the type of stories I wanted to tell.

Today, I create original feature films, television series, books (in prep for print), screenplays, music-driven concepts, and cinematic pitch materials across genres like mystery, romance, family drama, Westerns, thrillers, and faith-based entertainment. Many of my projects blend emotionally layered storytelling with visually elevated presentation and strong character-driven worlds.

One of the biggest milestones in my journey has been independently producing and developing projects that have continued to open doors professionally, including my feature film Love Comes Home to Holly, which has been an especially meaningful project for me as both a filmmaker and storyteller. Seeing ideas grow from concepts on paper into full cinematic worlds has been incredibly rewarding. LOVE COMES HOME TO HOLLY-is currently in the distribution phase and slated for release December 2026.

One fo the most incredible things about this journey and where my story comes from is being able to share it with the love of my life-my husband-Brad. HE is a Godsend and I could NOT and WOULD NOT want to do life without him.
Another-making friends along the way. Ms. Carol Fall-who own and runs Fall Farm Country Inn-she is an angel! She was so gracious to allow us to film on every edge of her 1- acre farm and house our cast at the inn. She is such an incredible person and I am so grateful that God seen fit to put her in my path.

Like many creatives and entrepreneurs, the journey hasn’t always been easy. There have been challenges, setbacks, and moments that required a tremendous amount of perseverance and faith. But every step — even the difficult ones — helped shape me not only as a creator, but as a person. I’ve learned that building a creative career often means believing in your vision long before anyone else fully sees it.

What keeps me moving forward is the belief that stories matter. I truly love creating work that emotionally connects with people, encourages them, inspires them, or simply gives them a moment of hope and escape. At the end of the day, that’s what this journey has always been about for me — creating meaningful stories that leave a lasting impact.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but honestly, I think that’s true for most people pursuing a creative career or building something independently. The entertainment industry can be incredibly rewarding, but it also requires a tremendous amount of perseverance, resilience, adaptability, and faith in yourself and your vision.

One of the biggest challenges has been navigating an industry that is both highly competitive and constantly evolving. As an independent creator, there are moments where you’re wearing multiple hats at once — writer, producer, director, marketer, strategist, business owner — all while trying to continue creating at a high level. There’s a lot happening behind the scenes that people don’t always see.

Another challenge has been learning how to balance the creative side with the business side of entertainment. You can have great stories and ideas, but you also have to understand branding, pitching, networking, production, financing, distribution, audience positioning, and how to keep moving projects forward even when obstacles arise. That learning curve can be intense, especially when you’re building things independently.

There have also been moments of uncertainty, delays, setbacks, and projects that took far longer than expected to complete. The film and television industry especially can test your patience because there are so many moving parts and so many people involved in bringing a vision to life. I’ve learned that persistence is just as important as talent.

At the same time, those challenges have helped shape me tremendously. They’ve strengthened my creativity, my work ethic, my faith, and my ability to problem-solve under pressure. I’ve learned how important it is to stay grounded, continue learning, and keep believing in your work even during difficult seasons.

I think one of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that success in creative industries rarely happens overnight. A lot of it comes from continuing to show up, continuing to create, and continuing to evolve even when the road feels uncertain. Most people that say ‘an overnight success’, actually indicates they have been pounding the pavemnet for 5-15 years. It’s a cahllenge. But I refuse to accept a challenge for defeat! I just build stronger, better and more creative.

Looking back, I’m grateful for both the victories and the struggles because they’ve all played a role in shaping not only my career, but also the stories I tell today.

***Filming at Fall Farm Country Inn was amazing. IF you have the chance-book a weekend in Mineola to visit Ms. Carol. The view, the food and the hospitality is TOP NOTCH! IT is open and accepting reservations :-)!***

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a producer, writer, director, songwriter, and creator focused on developing emotionally driven film, television, and literary properties through my company, COZY Faith & Family Films-in Association with CORE ENTERTAINMENT Group, LLC-which I run and co-own with my husband Brad. We specialize in creating original stories that blend cinematic storytelling with heart, faith, mystery, romance, family dynamics, and emotionally layered characters.

Most of my work lives in the space between elevated streaming drama and meaningful, family-friendly entertainment. I develop projects across multiple genres including faith-based films, romantic dramas, mystery series, Southern family dramas, Westerns, thrillers, and television concepts designed for both traditional networks and modern streaming platforms. In addition to screenwriting and producing, I also create pitch decks, cinematic marketing concepts, trailers, visual branding materials, and original music tied directly into the worlds of my stories.

I think what I’m most known for creatively is building immersive story worlds with strong emotional cores. Whether it’s a small-town Christmas romance, a mystery series set in a coastal town, or a cinematic drama with layered family dynamics, I want audiences to emotionally connect with the characters and feel invested in their journeys. My stories often center around themes of redemption, hope, faith, healing, second chances, and the complexity of relationships.

One thing that truly sets me apart is that I approach storytelling from both a creative and production-minded perspective. I don’t just write scripts — I build complete, market-aware properties with branding, visual identity, audience positioning, music integration, and cinematic presentation already in mind. I understand both the emotional side of storytelling and the practical realities of how projects are pitched, packaged, and positioned within the entertainment industry.

I’m also deeply passionate about creating entertainment that is clean and meaningful without sacrificing quality or emotional depth. I believe audiences are looking for stories that feel authentic, cinematic, emotionally engaging, and hopeful all at the same time. That balance has become a major part of my creative identity.

What I’m most proud of is the fact that so much of my journey has been independently built through persistence, creativity, faith, and a genuine love for storytelling. From developing original intellectual properties to independently producing films and creating entire cinematic worlds from the ground up, every project represents years of dedication and belief in the stories I’ve been called to tell.

More than anything, I’m proud when people connect emotionally to the work — when a story resonates with them, inspires them, comforts them, or simply gives them an escape for a little while. At the end of the day, that emotional connection is what storytelling is really about for me.

What’s next?
Looking ahead, I’m incredibly excited about continuing to grow both creatively and professionally while expanding the reach of the stories and projects I’m building through COZY Faith & Family Films. My long-term goal is to continue developing high-quality original films and television series that combine cinematic storytelling with emotional depth, hope, faith, and strong audience connection.

Right now, one of the major milestones I’m focused on is the continued growth and release strategy surrounding my feature film Love Comes Home to Holly, which has been a very meaningful independent project for me. Seeing that project move from an idea into a completed film has been both rewarding and motivating, and it has opened the door for even larger opportunities moving forward. So excited to have this in distribution and releasing this year just in time for the holidays!

Beyond that, I’m actively developing multiple original television and film properties across genres including mystery, romance, prestige-style family dramas, Westerns, and elevated streaming series. I’m especially excited about expanding several of my existing story worlds into larger franchises and serialized content. Building stories that can live across film, television, books, and music is something I’m very passionate about.

I’m also looking forward to growing the production side of my company and continuing to create projects that bridge the gap between meaningful entertainment and cinematic quality. I believe there is a growing audience looking for emotionally rich, uplifting content that still feels modern, compelling, and visually elevated, and I’m excited to continue contributing to that space.

Another big focus for the future is collaboration and expanding industry relationships. I’m continuing to build connections with distributors, networks, streaming platforms, fellow creatives, and production partners who value story-driven entertainment with heart and purpose.

At a personal level, I simply want to keep evolving as a storyteller and creator. Every project teaches me something new, and I’m always looking for ways to grow creatively, challenge myself, and push my work to the next level.
Most of all, I’m excited about what’s still ahead. I truly feel like I’m just getting started in many ways, and I’m looking forward to continuing to build stories, worlds, and projects that connect with audiences in a meaningful and lasting way.
