Hidden Gems: Meet Janet of Tox Bar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janet.

Hi Janet, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been a registered nurse since 2015 with a background in critical care, including charge nurse, precepting, and travel nursing experience. I began my nursing career in my hometown of El Paso, Texas, where my passion for patient care and helping others first began to grow.

As a proud Latina, being able to connect with and care for Spanish-speaking patients is something that is very important to me. I take pride in being able to provide services in both English and Spanish so patients feel comfortable, understood, and confident throughout their experience.

While working COVID travel nurse contracts during the pandemic, I witnessed firsthand how precious and unpredictable life can be. That experience completely changed my perspective and pushed me to stop putting my dreams on hold. I realized there would never be a “perfect” time to pursue what I was truly passionate about, so I decided to begin my journey into aesthetic nursing.

Over the past 5+ years in aesthetics, I’ve combined my ICU background with artistry, patient education, and natural-looking results. Working in critical care taught me how to stay calm under pressure, prioritize safety, and build trust quickly with patients and families from all walks of life — skills that continue to shape the way I care for patients today.

That journey eventually led me to open TOX BAR, a boutique medspa in Fort Worth focused on refined, natural-looking results and personalized patient care. My goal is to create a welcoming environment where patients feel comfortable, confident, and cared for while receiving safe, high-quality treatments.

Long term, I hope to continue growing both professionally and clinically while combining aesthetics, wellness, and patient-centered care in a meaningful way.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road, but I believe the challenges I’ve faced have helped shape me both personally and professionally.

Working in critical care during the COVID pandemic was one of the most difficult and emotional periods of my nursing career. As a travel ICU nurse, I cared for critically ill patients during a time filled with uncertainty, loss, and burnout across healthcare. While that experience strengthened me as a nurse, it also pushed me emotionally and mentally in ways I had never experienced before.

Starting over in aesthetics and opening my own business also came with challenges. Transitioning from ICU nursing into aesthetics required me to step outside of my comfort zone, rebuild confidence in a new specialty, and learn the business side of healthcare while still balancing nursing, motherhood, family life, and financial responsibilities.

I am also a single mother, and my daughter has been one of my biggest motivations throughout this entire journey. Watching her work hard toward her own goals inspires me daily to continue pushing for mine. At the same time, I have been very fortunate to have a strong support system from my family and from my daughter’s father, and I truly could not be doing all of this without them. Their support has allowed me to continue pursuing my dreams while still being present as a mother.

As a Latina entrepreneur, there were also moments of self-doubt and fear of failure, especially when pursuing something outside of the traditional path I had always known. Building a business from the ground up requires resilience, patience, and faith, particularly in the early stages.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned throughout my journey is that growth often happens during uncomfortable seasons. The obstacles I’ve faced have taught me adaptability, perseverance, empathy, and the importance of continuing to believe in yourself even when the outcome is uncertain.

Those experiences are ultimately what motivated me to continue building a career and business centered around confidence, patient care, and meaningful connection with others.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
TOX BAR is a boutique medspa located in the Fort Worth Alliance area focused on natural-looking aesthetic results, patient confidence, and personalized care. What sets TOX BAR apart is the combination of advanced aesthetic treatments with a strong foundation in patient safety and critical-care nursing experience.

As the founder of TOX BAR, I bring over 10 years of ICU and critical-care nursing experience along with more than 5 years in aesthetics. My background has shaped the way I approach patient care — prioritizing safety, education, attention to detail, and creating an environment where patients feel comfortable and genuinely cared for.

TOX BAR specializes in treatments such as neurotoxins, dermal filler, biostimulators including Sculptra and Radiesse, microneedling, IV therapy, wellness-focused treatments, and medical weight loss support. My aesthetic style focuses heavily on refined, balanced, and natural-looking results that enhance a patient’s features rather than drastically changing them.

One of the things I am most proud of is creating a welcoming space where patients can feel confident asking questions, learning about treatments, and being involved in their aesthetic journey. As a proud Latina business owner, I also take pride in being able to provide services in both English and Spanish so patients fully understand their treatments, options, safety, and goals. Aesthetics can often feel intimidating or inaccessible, especially in communities where there may be language barriers, so being able to educate and connect with Spanish-speaking patients in a comfortable and meaningful way is something that truly sets TOX BAR apart.

What I love most about aesthetics is the confidence aspect behind it. Nothing makes me happier than helping a woman regain her confidence and witnessing that transformation firsthand — whether it’s through a subtle treatment, a small refresh, or simply helping someone feel more comfortable in their own skin again. Those moments are what continue to motivate and inspire me every day.

Brand-wise, TOX BAR represents more than aesthetics alone. It represents confidence, self-care, empowerment, and the idea that subtle changes can still make a meaningful impact in how someone feels about themselves. My goal has always been to build a space that feels elevated and professional while still warm, approachable, and patient-centered.

As a newer business, I am especially proud of taking the leap to build something from the ground up while balancing motherhood, nursing, and entrepreneurship. TOX BAR is still growing, but the vision has always remained the same: refined results, effortlessly natural.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is family, purpose, and making a meaningful impact on the lives of others.

My daughter is at the center of everything I do and has been one of my biggest motivations throughout my journey. Being a mother has taught me resilience, balance, sacrifice, and the importance of leading by example. I want her to grow up seeing that hard work, perseverance, and believing in yourself can truly create opportunities and change your life.

I also deeply value connection and patient care. Throughout my nursing career — especially during my years in critical care and during the COVID pandemic — I witnessed how important compassion, empathy, and human connection truly are. Those experiences reminded me that even small acts of kindness or moments of confidence can have a lasting impact on someone’s life.

That perspective is a large part of why aesthetics became so meaningful to me. While aesthetics is often viewed as beauty-focused on the surface, for me it is really about confidence, empowerment, and helping people feel comfortable in their own skin. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a patient regain confidence and leave feeling happier, lighter, and more self-assured than when they walked in.

I also care deeply about representation and accessibility within the aesthetics industry. As a proud Latina, being able to educate and care for Spanish-speaking patients in their own language is something that means a great deal to me. I want every patient to feel informed, comfortable, and truly understood throughout their experience.

Above all, what matters most to me is building a life and career rooted in purpose, growth, family, and meaningful connections with others.
