Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Davis.
Hi Amanda, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Ten years ago this May, I started my photography business during a season of motherhood when I wanted to stay home with my children while still pursuing something creative and meaningful. Before photography, I was a teacher, and I’ve always loved connecting with people — especially children and families. What began as a simple passion quickly turned into something so much bigger than I ever imagined.
Over the last decade, photography has allowed me to tell stories for families in some of their most meaningful seasons — from newborn snuggles and growing families to seniors stepping into the next chapter of life. I’ve built my business around connection and creating an experience that feels relaxed, joyful, and genuine rather than overly posed. I love chasing golden sunset light, capturing authentic emotion, and helping people feel comfortable enough to simply be themselves in front of my camera.
One of the biggest blessings of this journey has been the relationships built along the way. Many of my clients have become dear friends, and getting to document their lives year after year is something I never take for granted. Ten years later, I still feel incredibly thankful that I get to do work I truly love while preserving memories families will treasure for generations.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a perfectly smooth road. Building a business while raising a family came with a lot of balancing, late nights, learning curves, and moments of self-doubt. As a small business owner, you wear every hat — photographer, editor, marketer, scheduler, communicator — and there have been seasons where that felt overwhelming.
Social media and the pressure to constantly keep up with trends can also be challenging in the creative industry. Over the years, I’ve learned how important it is to stay grounded in what truly matters and remain authentic to my style and the experience I want clients to have.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in family, motherhood, newborn, and senior photography, with a style that focuses on genuine connection, natural emotion, and timeless imagery. I’m especially drawn to the in-between moments — the laughter between siblings, a parent holding their child close, or the quiet moments that often become the most meaningful memories years later. I love using natural light, especially at sunrise and sunset, to create warm and emotive images that feel both joyful and authentic.
One thing I’m most proud of is the experience I create for my clients. I want sessions to feel relaxed, fun, and meaningful rather than overly posed or stressful. My background in teaching and my love for children have helped me connect naturally with families and create an environment where kids feel comfortable being themselves. Over the years, many of my clients have become repeat families and dear friends, and getting to document their lives season after season is something I never take for granted.
I think what sets my work apart is the heart behind it. For me, photography has never been just about taking pretty photos — it’s about the families and stories behind them. I also deliver all the images in a gallery and do not uncharge for additional images. I truly care about the people in front of my camera, and I think that connection is reflected in the images I create.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
The biggest way people can support my work is tagging me in their social media images and continuing to share my name with friends and family. Small businesses truly grow through relationships and word of mouth, and I never take that support for granted.
I love collaborating with local businesses, creatives, and other small business owners who value connection, community, and storytelling. Whether that’s through branding sessions, creative projects, styled shoots, mentoring new photographers or community events, I’m always inspired by opportunities to create alongside others.
