Today we’d like to introduce you to Marvel Akiojano.
Hi Marvel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started off creating dance content online, which was really my introduction to social media and building a community. As I got older, I naturally started exploring other parts of beauty and self-expression — first hair, then makeup — which honestly comes with growing up as a woman and figuring out what makes you feel confident.
What made my journey different was that I chose to share the learning process publicly. Instead of pretending to know everything, I let people grow with me. I shared what I was learning, techniques that worked for me, mistakes, tips, and beauty knowledge in a very real and relatable way.
Over time, I noticed a gap in the beauty space, especially when it came to products that were both high quality and truly long-lasting while still feeling accessible and community-driven. That’s what led me to launch Marviano Cosmetics. I wanted to create products that solved real problems while also making people feel confident, seen, and included.
Today, I’ve been able to grow both as a creator and as a founder, building a community around beauty, confidence, storytelling, and authenticity.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. I think people sometimes only see the highlights online, but there were a lot of difficult moments behind the scenes. Growing on social media came with heavy criticism and bullying in comment sections, and dealing with parasocial relationships was also challenging because people can sometimes feel entitled to parts of your life you never offered access to.
On the business side, there were struggles with manufacturers making mistakes, delays, product issues, and learning how to navigate those situations while still protecting my brand and community. Financially, there were also periods where I wasn’t making money at all despite putting in an overwhelming amount of work.
A lot of my journey has honestly been figuring things out in real time, making mistakes, learning quickly, and continuing anyway. I think those experiences are what shaped me the most, both as a creator and as a founder.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Marviano Cosmetics?
I’m the founder and creative director of Marviano Cosmetics, a beauty brand built around long-lasting confidence, community, and storytelling. We specialize in high-performance lip products, especially our smudge-proof lip liners that have become a signature product within our community. The brand was created to solve real beauty frustrations while still making products feel fun, elevated, and inclusive.
What sets Marviano apart is that the brand was built directly alongside my audience. A lot of beauty brands feel distant from their consumers, but my community has genuinely grown with me through every stage, from product development conversations to launch days, behind-the-scenes struggles, packaging decisions, and even sellouts. People don’t just buy the products; they feel connected to the journey and what the brand represents.
I think another thing that makes us different is how much we focus on authenticity and education. I’ve always shared my beauty journey openly online, so naturally the brand grew from trust. Whether I’m teaching makeup techniques, discussing formulation, or showing the realities of building a business as a young woman, people know they’re getting honesty from me.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of building something that has created real emotional connection while also delivering quality products people genuinely love and repurchase. Seeing customers wear Marviano products with confidence, support launches that sell out, and proudly call themselves “Marviano Dolls” is something I’ll never take for granted.
I want readers to know that Marviano Cosmetics is more than makeup to me, it’s a reflection of confidence, creativity, resilience, and community. We’re still growing, but the vision has always been to create a beauty brand that makes people feel seen while delivering products that truly perform.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
One of the biggest things I’d tell anyone starting out is not to tie your value or potential to numbers, especially in the beginning. It’s so easy to get discouraged when views are low, engagement fluctuates, or things don’t happen as quickly as you imagined, but growth isn’t always immediate.
If you’re genuinely passionate about what you do, keep going hard even when nobody is clapping for you yet. A lot of people quit too early because they expect instant results, but most successful people had long periods of uncertainty before things started working out.
I also wish I knew earlier that nothing about this journey is easy. Whether it’s content creation, entrepreneurship, or building a personal brand, there will always be challenges, criticism, mistakes, and moments where you question yourself. But consistency, adaptability, and believing in your vision really do matter.
You don’t have to have everything figured out to start. A lot of the growth comes from learning while doing.
