Life & Work with Madeline Montes of Dallas-Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madeline Montes.

Hi Madeline, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It all started when my husband, Carlos, said those four little words: “I want to start a business.” As the creative brain of the duo, I took that spark and ran with it! But we didn’t;t do it alone. We’ve been so blessed to have our helper, Hannah, who has poured her heart and soul into this business alongside us: we are so grateful for her!

We’ve navigated the trail and error, the sleepless nights, and the financial risks of starting a small at vendors markets and out of our home. Seeing our ‘mere idea’ turn into a full-scale mobile van has been a journey of tears and triumphs, and having a team that cares as much as we do is what truly makes us special.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been anything but smooth, but it’s been worth every bump. In the beginning, it was a total juggling act: my husband was in his corporate role, and I was working full time as a veterinary technician. Every ‘off’ day and every spare hour was poured into our cafecito business. It was a season of sacrifice, but after one year and three hard months, we purchased our van which led me to make the biggest decision of going all in! I took the leap of faith, quit my job, and dedicated myself to the van full-time. It was the scariest and best decision I’ve ever made– from that moment on, we truly took off!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We specialize in artisanal, dairy free versions of iconic Hispanic treats. Operating out of our cute little mobile van, we’ve become known for bridging the gap between traditional culture and dietary inclusivity. We take immense pride in our unique flavor profiles- using almond, coconut and oat milk to recreate textures of our heritage and many more drinks people have come to love!

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
COMMUNITY. This is the ‘why’ that gets us moving every morning For us, it has always about creating something bigger than a cup of coffee. We believe we were put on this earth to serve, and our little van is the vessel for that mission. Every latte or cafecito that leaves our window is an opportunity to cultivate new relationships and nourish the friendships that make our neighborhood feel like home.
