Rising Stars: Meet Trimanii Barnes of National

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trimanii Barnes.

Hi Trimanii, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my creative journey from a place of self-expression and healing. Ever since I was young, I’ve had a deep love for music. Artists like Michael Jackson inspired me early on and showed me how powerful music could be emotionally, spiritually, and creatively. Growing up in a household where my emotional needs weren’t always fully understood or nurtured, music became a safe space for me a place where I felt seen, comforted, and connected.

Writing and music eventually became the way I processed life, emotions, and personal growth, especially through themes like shadow work, spirituality, healing, and transformation. What started as a personal outlet slowly evolved into a deeper passion for creating art that connects with people emotionally and spiritually.

As I continued developing my sound and storytelling, I began building my brand and releasing work that reflects both vulnerability and empowerment. Today, I’m focused on creating meaningful music and literature that not only feels authentic to me, but also helps others feel seen, understood, and inspired in their own journeys.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been smooth. Along the way, I’ve dealt with housing instability, health challenges, financial struggles, self-doubt, and imposter syndrome. There were many moments where I felt depressed and constantly criticized myself or questioned whether I was good enough to keep going. I also live with Cyclothymia, so navigating mood fluctuations while trying to stay creative and consistent has been its own challenge. Some days my mind can become my biggest obstacle. But through all of it, music and writing remained the only two things that continued to ground me and give me purpose. Even during the hardest periods of my life, I kept creating.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I think what sets me apart is my willingness to be emotionally transparent. I don’t create just to entertain; I create to connect, heal, and reflect real human experiences. My work comes from a genuine place, and I think people can feel that authenticity when they engage with it.
