Community Highlights: Meet Maddy Montes of Sloan Beauty Bar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maddy Montes.

Hi Maddy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
This year marks my 10th year in the beauty industry. I actually started at the front desk of a spa before moving into a corporate sales role for a UK-based lash extension and lash lift company-back in the very early days of lashes becoming popular in the United States. Looking back, I truly feel like I entered the industry at the right time, although there were definitely moments where I questioned whether I was on the right path.
Even while attending esthetician school, I always knew lashes were where I was meant to be. I’m incredibly grateful that I spent the first five years of my career working for someone else before opening my own business. Those experiences shaped the kind of leader I wanted to become and gave me a realistic understanding of what goes into running a successful business behind the scenes.
From early on, I knew business ownership was my ultimate goal, so I took every opportunity to learn beyond just my role. I volunteered for extra responsibilities, paid attention to the backend operations, and treated every space I worked in as if it were my own.
Now, as I enter my 5th year of owning Sloan Beauty Bar, I’m incredibly thankful for every experience that helped shape both me and my business. I carry those lessons with me into my salon every single day.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to where we are today has not always been smooth, but it has always been worth it. I didn’t attend college, but I’ve always had a strong desire to learn, grow, and better myself. That mindset has been one of the biggest factors in navigating business ownership.
Owning a business means learning something new every day. From mentoring staff and helping grow their clientele to handling operations and client resolution, there is always something to improve and evolve.
At the center of everything I do is a people first mindset. I believe when you genuinely care for your clients and team, growth follows naturally. I also don’t allow complacency, for myself or the business. I’m constantly looking for ways to improve, adapt, and grow.
Sloan Beauty Bar has grown into so much more than just lashes, which has always been my vision. With that growth comes the responsibility of continuing to evolve, learning new services, improving marketing, and making sure my team has access to the best education and products possible.

As you know, we’re big fans of Sloan Beauty Bar. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Sloan Beauty Bar opened in 2021 as a one room suite with just me offering lash services. After the first year, we expanded into a five room suite and slowly began building a team. Now, as we enter our fifth year in business, we’ve grown into a beautiful storefront located off Camp Bowie and Bryant Irvin in the historic Ridglea Village area.

Today, we offer lashes, waxing, spray tans, and nail services, but what I’m most proud of is the culture we’ve built. At our core, we are people first, and I truly think clients can feel that the moment they walk through our doors. We never want anyone to feel like “just another appointment.” We value connection, integrity, and creating an experience where clients feel comfortable, cared for, and confident.

What sets us apart is the intention behind everything we do. We hold ourselves to a high standard when it comes to professionalism, education, and the overall client experience, while still making the space feel welcoming and personal. We are incredibly honored that our clients trust us as their service providers, and we never take that for granted.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Most people assume Sloan Beauty Bar is named after me, but Sloan is actually my grandmother’s family name. I always knew I wanted to name my first child after her, and in many ways this business became my first baby, so the name felt incredibly meaningful.
Something else people may not know about me is that outside of the salon, I’m also a part-time musician. When I’m not in the treatment room, running payroll, or ordering products, I’m usually playing guitar and singing at local venues and private events. I’ve performed at places like Kimbell Art Museum, wine bars, The Stockyards, weddings, and other local events around DFW. Music has always been another creative outlet for me and a huge part of who I am outside of business ownership.
