Check Out Reuben Walton’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reuben Walton.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m Reuben Walton, a singer-songwriter, recording artist, and producer working in alt-pop, indie soul, and pop/R&B. I grew up in Massachusetts and started making music early, first as a personal escape and then as a serious creative path. Over time, songwriting became the center of how I processed the world — but production became just as important to me. I’m very hands-on with my records, from writing and vocal production to arrangement, sonic world-building, and the visual identity around each release.

I studied Music Business at UMass Lowell and later completed programs in Electronic Music Production and Independent Artist development at Musicians Institute in Hollywood. Those experiences helped me connect the artistic side of what I do with the practical realities of building a career as an independent artist. I’ve released music under my own name for years, collaborated with other artists and producers, and continued developing a sound that blends emotional songwriting with atmospheric, electronic, and pop-forward production.

More recently, I’ve been focused on building momentum around my releases, growing my audience, and sharpening the full creative world around Reuben Walton Music. My work is rooted in melody, emotional honesty, and a strong visual/sonic identity. I’m interested in music that feels personal but also cinematic — songs that create a world around them, not just a track on a playlist.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to build a music career independently while also developing the creative, technical, and business sides at the same time. As an independent artist, you’re not just writing songs — you’re producing, recording, making visual decisions, managing releases, pitching music, building an audience, and trying to keep momentum going without a large team around you.

Another challenge has been finding environments where my work and perspective really make sense. I’ve always been drawn to pop, R&B, electronic production, and emotionally direct songwriting, but my path has not always fit neatly into one scene or category. I’ve had to learn how to trust my own instincts while also staying open to feedback and growth.

There have also been practical challenges: budget, housing instability, moving between cities, and figuring out how to keep creating through periods that were personally or logistically difficult. But those experiences have also made the work more specific. A lot of my music comes from feeling in-between — between places, between versions of myself, between where I’ve been and where I’m trying to go. Over time, I’ve learned to treat those challenges not as reasons to stop, but as material I can transform into songs, visuals, and a larger creative world.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work centers on writing, producing, recording, and releasing music under my own name, Reuben Walton. I’m an independent artist working across alt-pop, indie soul, pop/R&B, and electronic production, so my professional life involves both the creative and strategic sides of building an artist project.

Creatively, I specialize in melodic songwriting, vocal production, atmospheric pop production, and building a strong emotional world around each release. I’m very hands-on with my records — from the first song idea to the vocal arrangement, production choices, release planning, visuals, and overall presentation. I care about songs that are emotionally direct but also sonically cinematic.

I’m proud of the fact that I’ve continued to develop my own sound and identity independently. A lot of my work is about turning personal experience into something polished, expressive, and communicative. What sets me apart is that I don’t only think about the song itself; I think about the full creative world around it — how it sounds, how it looks, how it connects with listeners, and how it fits into the larger arc of Reuben Walton Music.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I’d just add that I’m grateful for anyone who takes the time to listen, share, or connect with the music. Being an independent artist can be a long road, but every listener, collaborator, blog feature, playlist add, message, or small moment of support really does matter.

I’m continuing to release new music and build the world around Reuben Walton Music, and I’m excited for people to hear what’s coming next. The best way to keep up is through my music platforms and social media, where I share new releases, visuals, and updates as the project continues to grow.
