Exploring Life & Business with Ron Butler of Agency 1 Sports Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ron Butler.

Hi Ron, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in South Florida, where sports, relationships, and community were always a big part of my life. Sports taught me early on about discipline, resilience, and how important it is to build genuine connections with people. Over time, that passion for football evolved into a career in athlete representation and management.

I started out learning the business from the ground up. Recruiting, building relationships, helping athletes navigate opportunities, and understanding the business side of sports beyond what most people see publicly. Like a lot of entrepreneurs, there wasn’t a straight path or overnight success story. There were a lot of long days, lessons, setbacks, and moments where I had to bet on myself and keep pushing forward.

As the landscape of college athletics and professional sports started changing, especially with NIL opportunities, I saw a bigger vision for what athlete representation could become. That vision led me to build Agency 1 Sports Group with the goal of creating a football-first agency focused on long-term relationships, athlete development, branding, and strategic career management.

Today, I work with NFL players, college athletes, and families across the country, helping them navigate contracts, NIL opportunities, recruiting, branding, and life beyond the game. What I’m most proud of isn’t just the deals or business growth it’s the trust people place in me during some of the most important moments of their careers.
I’m still growing, still learning, and still building every day.

For me, this journey has never just been about sports. It’s been about creating opportunities, building something meaningful, and leaving a legacy that impacts athletes and families for years to come.

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a number of talented athletes at both the NFL and college levels, and I’m grateful for the relationships that have come from this business. Some of the players I’ve worked with, either currently or throughout different stages of my career, include Lavonte David, Denzel Perryman, Phillip Dorsett, Ernest Jones, Jayden Daniels, Patrick Robinson, Daniel Thomas, Travis Benjamin, and Kareem Jackson, along with a number of others also a growing group of college athletes and NIL clients across the country.

One thing I’ve always appreciated is that every athlete’s journey is different. Some players are established veterans, while others are just beginning their careers and trying to create opportunities for themselves and their families. Being part of that process and helping guide them through important decisions is something I never take for granted.

What’s been most rewarding to me is not just the business side, but the relationships built over time. In this industry, trust matters, and I take pride in being someone athletes and families can rely on throughout different stages of their careers.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, and I think that’s true for most entrepreneurs who are building something from the ground up. The sports industry is highly competitive, relationship-driven, and constantly evolving, so there have been plenty of challenges along the way.

Early on, one of the biggest struggles was simply earning trust and credibility in an industry where relationships mean everything. When you’re first starting out, you’re competing against established agencies with larger infrastructures, bigger budgets, and decades of connections. I had to learn how to separate myself through consistency, work ethic, and genuinely caring about the athletes and families I worked with.

Another challenge has been balancing the pressure that comes with entrepreneurship. Building a business in sports doesn’t stop at normal business hours. There are constant phone calls, travel, recruiting, negotiations, problem-solving, and moments where you’re carrying the weight of major decisions that impact athletes, families, and your company. There are definitely sacrifices that come with that lifestyle.

The sports world itself has also changed dramatically over the years, especially with the rise of NIL opportunities in college athletics. While it created new opportunities, it also created a completely new landscape that agencies had to adapt to quickly. There were a lot of moving parts, uncertainty, and learning experiences while trying to build systems and structure around something that was evolving in real time.

Personally, I’ve also learned that growth comes with adversity. There were moments where things didn’t go as planned, partnerships that taught hard lessons, deals that fell through, and situations that tested me mentally and emotionally. But I believe those experiences helped shape me into a better leader, businessman, and person overall.

One thing I’ve learned is that success isn’t really about avoiding obstacles it’s about being able to keep moving forward through them. Every challenge taught me something, strengthened my perspective, and helped prepare me for the next level of growth.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Agency 1 Sports Group is a football-focused sports agency that specializes in NFL representation, NIL strategy, athlete branding, recruiting support, and long-term career management for athletes at both the college and professional levels.
What we do goes far beyond negotiating contracts. We help athletes and families navigate the business side of sports whether that’s NIL opportunities, professional representation, marketing strategy, career planning, or preparing for life beyond football. A big part of our role is serving as trusted advisors during some of the most important moments in an athlete’s journey.

One thing that sets us apart is our relationship-first approach. We take pride in being hands-on, accessible, and genuinely invested in the people we work with. In this industry, relationships and trust matter just as much as business strategy. A lot of athletes and families want someone they can actually communicate with consistently, someone who understands both the pressures of the sport and the realities of the business behind it.

We’ve also built a strong reputation for identifying and developing talent early. Whether it’s helping guide high school athletes entering the NIL world, supporting college players through major transitions, or working with NFL veterans, our focus is always on creating long-term value instead of chasing short-term attention.

Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is that Agency 1 has continued to grow through relationships, trust, and reputation. We’ve built something that reflects resilience, consistency, and authenticity. We’re still growing, but the vision has always been bigger than just signing players it’s about building a company and platform that genuinely impacts athletes and families in a positive way.

I’d want readers to know that our brand is built on work ethic, loyalty, communication, and long-term thinking. We’re passionate about helping athletes maximize opportunities both on and off the field while building meaningful relationships that last well beyond the game itself.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with and support Agency 1 Sports Group in a number of ways. We’re always open to building meaningful relationships with athletes, families, brands, businesses, media professionals, and others who are passionate about sports and athlete development.

For athletes and families, we provide guidance in areas such as NFL representation, NIL opportunities, branding, recruiting strategy, and long-term career planning. We work closely with individuals who are looking for strong communication, hands-on support, and a long-term vision for their careers both on and off the field.

We also enjoy collaborating with brands, companies, and organizations that are looking to connect with athletes for NIL partnerships, marketing campaigns, community initiatives, speaking opportunities, appearances, and brand development. As the sports and NIL landscape continues to evolve, there are more opportunities than ever for creative partnerships that benefit both athletes and businesses.

In addition, we’re always open to connecting with coaches, trainers, media outlets, photographers, content creators, and other professionals within the sports industry who share similar values and want to help athletes grow and succeed.
The biggest way people can support us is by continuing to build genuine relationships, staying connected, and believing in what we’re building. A lot of our growth has come through word of mouth, trust, and people recognizing the work we put into helping athletes and families navigate this industry the right way.
