Today we’d like to introduce you to Fred “Jazz” Ruland.
Fred “Jazz” , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a child, I loved drawing characters like Popeye, Dennis the Menace, Cat in the Hat, Rat Fink, Famous monsters like Frankenstein, Werewolf and the Mummy.
When the Beatles came on the scene, I drew them.
As I grew older, I got inspired by artists like Salvador Dali, Picasso, MC Etcher and R. Crumb.
I started drawing abstract images that you can see things no matter which way you turned the picture.
In 1986 I purchased an Amiga Computer where you could create artwork using a mouse so I started creating digital art using the Amiga. At the time, not many people where doing this. Andy Worhol did.
I started printing these out and entered an Art show in LA and won “Most Unique” award.
Since then I’ve been creating art in my sketchbooks. Then my wife got me an Ipad with an Ipencil,
I started creating art with it as well as creating in my art books. Now I take those images and paint them on canvas using acrylic paint.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I really haven’t been pursuing an art career until recently because I am also a musician and was trying to make it in the music world. Now I’m more focused on Art.
In the Art and Music field, I think for most people the roads are not that smooth, but working on smoothing it out,
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As with my music, I approach art like Jazz, being spontaneous, whatever happens, happens. I create images that you never see in real life, leaving the viewers with their own interpretation.
All of my art is original and is self inspired.
After I finish a painting, I feel very proud that I created another piece.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Throughout my journey in life I am blessed to have had support from many people.
My wife Brandy Ruland has always supported my creative efforts to everything I do.
She always pushes me to do my best.
