Today we’d like to introduce you to Jarrod Butler.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a musician with an extreme metal background. I was deeply involved with the black metal scene in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, and a part of all the darkness thay entails. I have since give my life to Jesus Christ and use that background and music to minister to that same subculture.
This is a summary of my musical journey and where I am now with the ministry project, “Suffer Not The Witch”:
“Suffer Not The Witch” was founded by Jarrod Butler, a life-long metalhead who has perfomed all over the world in the extreme death/black metal scene. After disappearing completely, Jarrod returned to exhume his talents and use them with distinct purpose: Spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ and share his personal testimony of being delivered from witchcraft, satanism and more, all of which are struggles plaguing the metal scene.
“Jarrod was the vocalist of Texas-based death metal band, “Prophecy”, for their first European tour in 2004 and, more recently, was featured on “The Funeral Procession” debut album, “In Still Silence” as rhythm guitar and guest vocals, as well as rhythm guitar on singles, “What Hurts the Most” (A Rascal Flatts metal cover) and, “The Whispering Dark”. Additionally, Jarrod is the main vocalist and rhythm guitarist of melodic metal band, “America Inc”, who have played from Texas to North Carolina, as well as guest vocalist for an online Christian metalcore project, “Rumors of War”.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I was performing for personal gain, I had no real concern or care for the lyrical content I presented. Even being a Christian, I was singing songs that glorified all manner of other gods and idolatry. There was always a void remaining until I gave it all to God and let Him dictate the message.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have become known as reliable in the music industry, if anything. I have a work ethic that has allowed me more opportunity than many musicians with far greater talent than me.
More importantly, the scene knows they can come to me with questions and concerns about their faith, my faith, or anything of the sort.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The Christian Extreme Metal community is growing more than ever. It has even begun to adopt a label : “New Wave Of Christian Extreme Metal” (NWOCEM). There are more festivals cropping up worldwide, more new bands forming every day, and a fan base hungry for more. The Lord is moving in the darkest corners of the metal scene, and that will surely yield much fruit.
