Inspiring Conversations with Chrisleen Vavrosky of Baby Buns Bakery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chrisleen Vavrosky.

Hi Chrisleen, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It really started off as an idea to bring Taiwanese-style bread buns to the Mid-Cities area of DFW. I wanted to run it as something on the side while I worked my full-time office job remotely to stay home with my son. After he was born though, that office job asked me to come back to work in-person, but I really didn’t want to leave my baby. So I made the decision to leave my job to stay home with him.

I still needed to do something for work, and after some difficulty finding a remote part-time job (and even being scammed for one!), I thought, why not just start the home bakery I had been thinking of? So I started testing bread recipes, but with the holidays around the corner, I really wanted to get started with cookies, cause who doesn’t love festive cookies during the holidays? Those recipe tests came a bit easier, but I still wanted a product that would tie back to the Asian-inspired theme so it didn’t feel so abrupt when I eventually came back to Asian-style buns. That’s when I developed the butter mochi brookie. I had actually never made butter mochi before! But they were really popular, I love all things mochi, and I love brookies – so why not put it all together? When I tasted it for the first time, I knew it had to be my signature item.

That was last fall (2025), and since then I’ve launched my spring menu which showcases a much stronger presence of Asian flavors, including two new flavors of my mochi brookies, and new mochi-stuffed cookies (I said I love all things mochi!). I’m starting to work on my summer menu now, which will continue with bold Asian-inspired flavors, but maybe a more tightened menu, because it’s hard work running this by myself with my two kids in tow and my husband as my only help! But I am so grateful for the opportunity to do this – to build something that’s my own, and to do it while being present with my kids and family – I really couldn’t ask for anything better.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been lots of challenges. First, we’re a small start up business, which is always full of challenges with trying to get our name out there, building a customer base and following, funding, etc. On top of that, I’m doing this all without a huge team and with my young kids in tow. And then with all that, my amazing husband still helps me after working his full-time job and through the chronic pain of living with an autoimmune disease. It’s been tough, but we believe God gave me this opportunity at this time for a reason. So we keep going!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Baby Buns Bakery?
Baby Buns Bakery is a small-batch home bakery based in North Fort Worth specializing in creative, Asian-inspired cookies and butter mochi brookies. I love taking familiar flavors and adding a fun twist inspired by Asian desserts and drinks, like milk tea, matcha, ube, sakura, and pineapple cake. This is what sets Baby Buns apart—the combination of unique flavors and textures using the familiar and widely loved vessel of a simple cookie.

I offer weekly preorders, market pop-ups, custom boxes, event treats, and seasonal menus that change throughout the year. My signature items are my butter mochi brookies and mochi-stuffed cookies, which combine chewy mochi textures with classic cookie comfort.

One thing I’m especially proud of is building Baby Buns while raising my family. Many parts of the bakery happen during nap times, after bedtime, and in the middle of everyday family life. I love that it’s also grown into something that allows me to connect with my community and introduce people to flavors they may not have tried before.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I think success is different for everyone. To many people, it’s the end goals of finishing university, getting that perfect corporate job, having the nice house, nice car, etc. But I like to celebrate the wins along the way. And for us in this season, it’s getting two preorders for the week, being home to see my son take his first steps, selling out at a pop-up market, getting to be at my daughter’s school events, having repeat customers, and getting to have lunch dates with my husband. Success is achieving what you want to achieve for yourself—and that’s what I’m doing with Baby Buns and my family.
