Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Guffey-Selaya.
Hi Morgan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
After a loss within my family, I found myself searching for something that could bring a little joy back into my life and give me a way to be known for something good again. That’s really where all of this started. I turned to events as a creative outlet, but also as a way to reconnect with my community during a difficult season.
My very first event was actually canceled because of COVID, which was discouraging at the time. But later that year, I came back and organized an outdoor market so local businesses and makers in my hometown could still have a place to sell and connect with people safely. What started as a small way to help others quickly became something much bigger.
Over time, those events grew into community markets, festivals, and creative spaces centered around supporting small businesses, farmers, artists, and local families. For me, it has always been about creating places where people feel welcome, inspired, and connected. What began as healing during a hard chapter slowly turned into a purpose, and now I get to pour that purpose back into the community that helped take care of me when I needed it most.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. In the beginning, everything felt like a battle because of COVID. My very first event was canceled, and there were a lot of moments filled with rejection, uncertainty, and honestly some heartbreak too. There were times I questioned if I should keep going at all.
At one point, I stepped away from events for about a year and moved to Midland, Texas. During that season of life, I married the love of my life, and eventually we made our way to Lubbock. Even while I was taking a break, I could feel that pull to create again. I tried to ignore it for a while, but when something is truly your calling, it keeps finding its way back to you.
So in October of 2023, I hosted my first event back under Mo Productions, and it completely reignited that spark in me. Since then, I’ve been incredibly thankful for the way the Lubbock community has embraced what we’re building. There’s such a strong sense of community here, and I believe people are craving more spaces that feel genuine, creative, and welcoming.
That’s what I try to create through every market and event, spaces that feel organic and open to everyone, no matter their background or income level. At the end of the day, I want people to feel cared for, connected, and like they belong here, because they do. This is our home and we should all get that opportunity to feel that.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m Mo, the person behind Mo Productions, Mo’s Markets, and Mo’s Screen Headz. At the core of everything I do is community. Whether it’s organizing markets, creating events, supporting small businesses, or screen printing merchandise, my work has always centered around bringing people together and creating spaces where they feel seen and welcomed.
I specialize in community-driven events that highlight local artists, farmers, makers, musicians, and entrepreneurs. I love building experiences that feel genuine and approachable, whether that’s a large festival, a weekly farmers market, or a small creative gathering. I think people are craving places that feel real, connected, and human again, and that’s what I try to create.
What I’m most proud of is the community that has formed around these events. Seeing small businesses grow, watching artists make connections, or hearing that someone finally felt comfortable enough to put themselves out there creatively means more to me than anything else. I take a lot of pride in making sure people are cared for, no matter what stage of life they’re in or where they come from.
I think what sets us apart is that everything is built with heart first. We try to embrace everyone, artists, makers, families, students, longtime locals, and people who may not always feel like they fit into traditional spaces. I want our events and businesses to feel warm, creative, and community-focused instead of overly polished or exclusive. At the end of the day, I want people to leave feeling inspired, connected, and a little more hopeful than when they arrived.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Honestly, I think the biggest thing behind my success has been resilience mixed with a real love for people. There were plenty of moments where it would’ve been easier to walk away, especially after personal loss, cancellations, setbacks, and starting over more than once, but I kept coming back to the same thing: creating spaces where people feel connected, inspired, and cared for.
I genuinely care about the people who make these events what they are, from artists and farmers to families, musicians, and first-time small business owners nervously setting up their very first booth. I think people can tell when something is built with intention and heart instead of just for profit. Community only works when people feel welcomed into it, and that’s always been the foundation behind everything my team and I work on.
