Today we’d like to introduce you to Felicia Koors.
Hi Felicia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
As someone who struggled to find and make friends after the biggest transitions in my life (becoming a mom) I was looking for connection and being around women who’d uplift and encourage in this new realm of life, and even make new friends. After attending a women’s conference in 2019 I felt called to start something similar, on a smaller for the local area. But 2020 happened and after the birth of my second child that same year the idea got put on the back burner. However, after a couple of years I felt myself still called to do something to create connections close to home and eventually got it in the works. So in 2023 I created a one day conference under the name of Community for Courage and had such a good reception it turned into not only a yearly thing, but women wanting monthly meetups as well. I had trouble finding groups for women that did events that I was looking to be a part of so decided to create it myself and now we have monthly events for women to socialize and find new friendships with at least 3 to 4 events a month in around cities from Fort Worth to Denton. We make it a point to support locally women-owned businesses as our meetup/events locations because we want our dollars going back to the women working hard on their dreams and really focus on creating a sisterhood of positivity.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not smooth, a lot of work and time for sure. By nature I’m a shy and quiet person who much prefers to stay introverted. But I knew I’d have to deal with a palpitating heart and nervousness to become the person I needed to be to encourage other women that if I can do hard things they can too. Is it scary to meet new people? Absolutely, but I knew I wasn’t the only one who needed a tribe and a feeling of belonging and needed to get out there. Like many women I have struggles on and off with depression and anxiety, and self-doubt. But you have to keep showing up for yourself and for the people you have yet to meet because you really don’t know who you’re journey and story might touch and inspire. Sometimes one person comes to an event and others we have a dozen, but I truly believe whoever shows up needed that time for that day and I’ll be there too. Whatever season I may be going through, I’ll still show up for them.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’d say I’m most known for being a girls girl big time supporter. I still work in corporate along with Community for Courage as my side-hustle, and being in a heavy male-dominated industry during the day I love being able to connect women and highlight incredible businesses. Whether it’s in business or part of personal development, come sit next to me if you can’t think of anything nice to say about yourself because I’ll find something and make reiterate to you how capable you are of so many thing you don’t give yourself credit for. I enjoy seeing women coming together through business collaborations, or other groups along with mine that put on great events or meetups and making new friendships. I want other’s to see me as their go to for recommendations. Diversity is important and I strive to create a welcoming environment that all women of different ages, colors, and backgrounds feel comfortable in and want keep coming back to to be a part of.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
We definitely want to know any and all women-owned businesses in the area we’ve yet to explore or those that deserve more exposure. I’m always open to possible business collaboration, and at the same time work to keep at the forefront that our main goal is we’re here to help women in our community connect and form true friendships just by simply having fun, we want to hear from you!
The biggest reason I started Community for Courage was never just about me, it’s about who else can I help, who can I reach? Who can I highlight and support? I feel like I’ve been very lucky to have had so many women get behind my ideas and events, even when I doubt myself, they believe in what I’m working to build. Some of the people I’ve found have become great friends and amazing women I can count on, and I can only hope they know I’d do the same for them.
