Community Highlights: Meet Johanna Bjurstrom of Happy Skin By Johanna

Today we’d like to introduce you to Johanna Bjurstrom.

Hi Johanna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey started early. At just 12 years old, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis connected to severe mercury toxicity from teeth fillings. At the same time, I struggled with acne, eczema, and a deep feeling that something in my body was not right.

That became the beginning of a long journey — not only physically, but also within myself. When I could not find the help I truly needed, I was forced to start searching for answers on my own. I began listening to the body, understanding its signals, and questioning much of what I had previously been taught.

But it was never only about physical healing. I also had to confront my own inner patterns — constantly performing, adapting, and putting everyone else before myself. Over time, I realized how deeply these emotional and subconscious patterns affected my body, skin, nervous system, and overall well-being. When I started working with the whole picture — the body, emotions, energy, lifestyle, and the subconscious mind — that was when the real transformation began.

That experience became the foundation of my work and eventually led me to create Happy Skin Academy and The Happy Skin Method™. Through nearly 30 years of experience working with skin, health, holistic therapies, nervous system regulation, face mapping, nutrition, and transformational work, I developed a method focused on understanding the root cause of imbalance rather than only treating surface-level symptoms.

By working with the body’s signals, energy medicine, lifestyle, emotional health, and inner balance, the results began to appear not only externally but also deeply within. Today I feel healthier and more connected to myself than ever before. I no longer live with the skin and health struggles that once controlled my life, but more importantly, I live much more aligned with who I truly am.

This is also what I teach today. Through Happy Skin Academy, I educate Holistic Skin Practitioners in the same holistic approach, helping them support others in creating deep, lasting transformation — while also building meaningful, freedom-based businesses aligned with their purpose.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, and I think that is something many entrepreneurs can relate to. One of my biggest challenges has been rebuilding myself and my business several times throughout my journey.

My health struggles started very early in life, and for many years, I had to navigate feeling misunderstood while searching for answers outside of conventional approaches. That journey taught me resilience, but it also forced me to slow down and truly listen to myself and my body.

Another challenge has been balancing passion with boundaries. Like many women, I spent years overperforming, taking care of everyone else, and pushing myself too hard. Eventually, I realized that building a meaningful business also requires inner work, emotional healing, nervous system regulation, and learning how to create success without constantly running on stress.

I have also experienced financial setbacks and periods where I had to rebuild parts of my business from the ground up. At one point, after going into business with someone else, I lost a large part of what I had built and had to start over. That was incredibly difficult emotionally, financially, and personally, but it also became a turning point that pushed me to build something much more aligned with who I truly am today.

Looking back, I honestly believe those challenges became some of my greatest teachers. They deepened my understanding of health, transformation, self-worth, and what people truly need — not only physically but also emotionally and spiritually.

Today, those experiences are a big part of why I can support others more deeply and authentically.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Happy Skin by Johanna is a holistic beauty, skin health, and education brand focused on helping women understand the deeper connection between skin, health, emotions, lifestyle, and the nervous system.

What makes my work different is that I do not see the skin as something isolated. I believe the skin often reflects what is happening internally — physically, emotionally, hormonally, and energetically. Instead of only focusing on surface symptoms, I teach people how to understand the body’s signals and work with the root causes behind imbalance.

Through nearly 30 years of experience in skincare, holistic health, education, and transformational work, I created The Happy Skin Method™ — a holistic approach that combines skin health, nervous system regulation, face mapping, nutrition, emotional wellbeing, lifestyle, and inner transformation.

Today, through Happy Skin Academy, I educate Holistic Skin Practitioners to build meaningful, freedom-based businesses where they can help others while staying aligned with their own purpose and values, while also helping women better understand their skin, body, stress patterns, and inner well-being.

What I am most proud of is seeing women reconnect with themselves, regain confidence, understand their bodies in a completely new way, and create real transformation not only in their skin, but in their overall wellbeing and life.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I appreciate most about Dallas is the entrepreneurial energy and the feeling that many people there are ambitious, driven, and open to growth and new ideas. I love being around people who want to create something meaningful, build businesses, and think outside the box.

I also enjoy the warmth, openness, and the blend of modern city life and a more grounded lifestyle. As someone who works with holistic health and transformation, I’m always inspired by places where people are curious about personal growth, wellbeing, and creating a better life for themselves.

What I would probably like least is the fast pace and stress that can come with larger cities. I think many people today are disconnected from their bodies and inner well-being because life moves so quickly. That is also why I’m passionate about helping people slow down, reconnect with themselves, and understand their health more deeply.
