Life & Work with Amaris Ramos of Dallas-Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amaris Ramos.

Hi Amaris, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started first for a friend’s birthday party. I decorated my apartment with flowers in old wine bottles and a citrus and floral table scape. Then, with some encouragement, I decided to go for it and look into how I could maybe work for a florist in a shop or something. I landed a freelancing gig that taught me a lot of what i know today! I have worked for this florist for almost two years consistently!! In that second year, a friend asked for another favor for a table arrangement which then lead to me decorating for her daughters 1st birthday party!! That really pushed me to take my skills seriously and she encouraged me to look into the legal side of things which made everything so real. As I sat there filling out the tax forms, I never had a name for my business so I thought I was being slick and just used my name translated into English. My first name comes from a Hebrew name that means, “promised by God” and my last name in Spanish means “bouquets”. So, with a God wink, I went all in and felt so purposeful. It has just come up to my first year and the momentum is building faster than I expected. As of right now, I am not officially a full time business owner but it sure does feel like it!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth. When I started out, I took a risk after I left my 9-5 I was in for the last ten years. It was a big risk because I ended up taking out my 401k and went for it. A friend was excited for me and wanted to invest in me so she helped out with giving me the funds to buy a bloom cart to be able to do vendor markets. With that, I was able to do my first vendor collaboration which helped me with social media exposure. Then, it seemed as though things started to pop up but, it has been a slow build. I have been learning a lot about the floral industry and directing myself to the ideal clientele.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a floral designer who loves colorful floral arranging. I am known for my beautiful hand wrapped bouquets. I am most proud of the work that came out more extravagant than expected because the flowers that were expected never arrived. Having to pivot is a big part of floral designing. I am looking forward to working more specifically with more table scape designs for restaurants and offices. I would also like to continue to create one-of-a-kind bouquets to send or give to loved ones!

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
The best app that has been super helpful to me recently, is Instagram. The floral industry community has been super helpful and open to share their tricks of the trade. A book that has been helpful for me is , the bible. My faith in God has given me the freedom to trust that God has given me the creativity, the wisdom, and the community to flourish in my business.
