Conversations with Malaysia Breedlove

Today we’d like to introduce you to Malaysia Breedlove.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been making skincare products since I was 13 years old. It started because I could never really find products that worked for my skin, so I started learning and creating things for myself. What started as something personal slowly became a real passion of mine. I would make soaps, body butters, oils, and different skincare products just because I genuinely loved it and loved learning about skincare.

Later on, while serving on active duty in the Navy, I continued making products in my free time. During one deployment, some of my shipmates started using my soaps and skincare products and really liked them. One of them told me my products would probably do really well at farmers markets and encouraged me to think bigger about it. While we were underway, I would sell products on the ship whenever people ran out of their regular soaps. Seeing people trust and enjoy something I created made me realize this was something I could really build into a business.

After leaving the Navy, I decided to pursue esthetics because I wanted to learn even more about skincare and how to properly help people with their skin concerns. I wanted the knowledge behind the passion. That journey eventually led me to creating The Royal Experience, my esthetics business based in Dallas, Texas.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey definitely hasn’t been easy. Building a business from the ground up comes with a lot of challenges, especially transitioning from military life into entrepreneurship. There were moments where business was slow, moments where I doubted myself, and times where I had to figure things out on my own. I had to learn marketing, content creation, branding, client retention, and how to stay consistent even when things weren’t moving as fast as I wanted them to.

At the same time, every challenge taught me something. It taught me patience, resilience, and how important consistency really is. I learned that growth takes time and that you have to keep showing up for yourself and your business even during the slow seasons.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Today, I specialize in luxury skincare treatments, customized facials, body treatments, and creating experiences that help people feel relaxed, confident, and cared for. I really focus on the experience just as much as the results. I want clients to feel comfortable when they come to me. I want them to feel like they can relax, breathe, and leave feeling better than when they walked in.

What I’m most proud of is turning something I started as a teenager into a real business and career. Skincare has always been personal to me, and I think that’s what sets me apart. I genuinely care about helping people feel good in their skin and creating an experience that feels intentional and authentic.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned through all of this is that consistency will take you further than perfection ever will. You are not always going to have everything figured out, and success doesn’t happen overnight. But if you stay committed, keep learning, and keep believing in what you’re building, things will eventually come together.
