Today we’d like to introduce you to Morayma Grimaldo.
Hi Morayma, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Morayma Grimaldo , and my story begins in Mexico, I was born and raised in San Luis Potosí, in a family of six, surrounded by the support of my parents and the inspiration of my older sisters. My first connection to the beauty industry came at 17 years old when one of my sister became a hair stylist and I saw her graduate next to one of Mexico’s most recognized hairstylists.
Although I later decided to study Industrial Engineering — drawn to, lean manufacturing, quality control, lead time and business — the world of beauty was always present in my heart.
At 20, I immigrated to the United States, and adapting to a new country, culture, and language became my biggest challenge. Yet I never gave up. I worked multiple jobs, studied intensely, and eventually trained in top schools like Salon Boutique Academy and Toni & Guy.
Today, I’m proud to be building my career in the beauty industry, specializing in hair extensions and curly hair and doing it with gratitude for my family, my younger brother who looks up to me, and my husband — my biggest support. In a home full of love, and the strength of a family of six. Growing up, my sisters were my role models — specially my older sister, whose independence that why I love engineering career and and my hair stylist sister. I got a passion for beauty inspired me at a very young age. I remember watching her stand next to one of Mexico’s most iconic stylists like Fernando Correa during her graduation and feeling something awaken inside me.
Even when I studied Industrial Engineering later on, the beauty industry never stopped calling me. It was always there — a quiet dream waiting for its moment. My target place on the industrial was to work for L’Oréal factory…
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been far from smooth — but it has been meaningful.
There were days when I felt lost, days when I doubted myself, and days when the language barrier made me feel invisible. Balancing school and work while being thousands of miles from home tested me in ways I never expected.
Working in the first salon brought new challenges: learning to trust myself, facing misunderstandings, improving the way I communicated, and trying to fit into a world where I often felt like an outsider.
But every challenge has been a teacher. The difficult moments shaped me more than the easy ones ever could.
When I immigrated to the United States at 20 years old, everything changed. I arrived with hope, but also fear, loneliness, and a language I couldn’t speak. I worked hard, sometimes two jobs, and pushed myself through long nights of studying just to keep up.
But every step, every tear, and every sacrifice led me back to my passion: making women feel beautiful and confident through hair. Today, I stand proud of the journey that shaped me — built on faith, hard work, and the support of my parents, my little brother who believes in me, and my husband, who has been my strength through it all.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I create transformations , not just with hair, but with confidence.
I specialize in hair extensions, and for me, it is more than a service… it is a form of healing, empowerment, and connection.
Women sit in my chair carrying stories, insecurities, hopes, and dreams. Seeing them look at themselves with new confidence is the reason I love what I do.
I used to want to do everything, but over time I learned that true mastery comes from embracing the one thing your heart beats for. For me, that is extensions. It’s where I feel the most myself creative, passionate, and fully alive.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my childhood memory was growing up surrounded by love, imagination, and family. I was completely obsessed with Barbie dolls so much that today I’m still a collector. Some of my happiest memories are with my sister, who loved doing hair. She would straighten my hair, practice beautiful updos on me, and give me whatever bangs or hairstyle was trending at the time. I felt like her little model.
One memory that still makes me smile happened when she was getting ready to style a bride for a wedding. I was so excited to go with her, but when she left without me, I cried my heart out. My dad couldn’t stand seeing me upset, so he drove after her until we caught up to her car. He told her I was crying for her—and of course, I got my way. Looking back, it’s one of those funny, loving family memories I’ll always treasure.
It shows your personality, your love for beauty/Barbies, and your bond with your family. If you want it to sound more funny, emotional, or glamorous for the magazine, I can help tweak it too.
