Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Jennings.
Jesse, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in Fort Worth and started in church at the age of 5 playing guitar.
Like a lot of independent artists, it started small — local shows, learning what works, building a catalog of original songs, and trying to get a little better every time I stepped on stage. As opportunities grew, I put together my band, Mystic Richards, and started focusing on creating shows that mix original music with songs people already know and connect with.
Since then, I’ve continued building through live performances, songwriting, and staying involved in the Texas country scene. It’s never been about chasing trends — just making honest music, connecting with people, and continuing to grow one song and one show at a time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been not having deep financial backing and having to build everything the hard way, step by step. A lot of decisions have had to be made carefully, making sure music never came at the expense of stability at home.
At the same time, family has always come first. Raising my girls with my wife, Kimberly, has been the priority, so balancing time, energy, and resources between being present as a dad and building a music career hasn’t always been easy. There were plenty of seasons where I had to slow things down or move more carefully just to keep everything balanced.
But that’s also shaped who I am as an artist. It’s made the music more honest, kept things grounded, and reminded me what really matters.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Texas country artist, songwriter, and performer focused on honest, story-driven music that reflects real life. My work centers around writing songs that people can connect with — nothing overproduced or forced, just authentic country music with meaning behind it.
Live performance is a big part of what I do. Whether it’s an acoustic set or a full band show with Mystic Richards, I try to create a connection with the crowd and make every show feel personal. I’m known for mixing original music with familiar songs that people already love, which helps bring audiences in and keeps the energy high while still introducing them to my own material.
What I’m most proud of is sticking with it the independent way — building everything from the ground up without shortcuts, while still keeping family as the priority. That’s also what sets me apart: the music comes from real life, not a manufactured image. It’s grounded, straightforward, and built on experience, not trends.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
In this industry, networking is really just about being dependable and easy to work with. People remember when you show up on time, do what you say you’re going to do, and put on a good show no matter the size of the crowd. Those things lead to repeat bookings and introductions to other artists, venues, and opportunities.
I’ve also learned to pay attention to people who are a few steps ahead and doing things the right way — whether that’s other artists, sound guys, venue owners, or even fans who support the scene. You can learn a lot just by staying humble and observing.
