Today we’d like to introduce you to Thomas (Buggzy Fresh) Rogers.
Hi Thomas (Buggzy Fresh), please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey started in Hollygrove, New Orleans, where I first picked up a pair of clippers at just 12 years old. What began as a way to make extra money in the neighborhood quickly turned into a lifelong passion and career. Growing up where I did taught me discipline, resilience, and how to create opportunities for myself even when resources were limited. Barbering became more than just cutting hair — it became my creative outlet, my business, and eventually my purpose.
Over the years, I dedicated myself to mastering the craft. I became known for sharp line-ups, clean blurry fades, attention to detail, and creating an experience that made clients feel confident the moment they left my chair. I went from charging $5 haircuts as a kid to building a premium brand and clientele through consistency, professionalism, and genuine customer service. One thing I’ve always believed is that people may forget what you say, but they’ll never forget how you make them feel. That mindset helped me grow not only as a barber, but also as an entrepreneur and mentor.
As social media evolved, I used it as a tool to showcase my work, build relationships, and inspire other barbers coming up in the industry. I’ve grown a loyal audience of over 4,000 followers who support my journey, my content, and my message about elevating the barber profession. I also became passionate about teaching others that barbering is much bigger than just a haircut — it can become a pathway to freedom, financial stability, ownership, and legacy when approached with the right mindset.
Today, I own and operate BFresh Lounge in Plano, Texas, where I provide luxury grooming services with flexible hours and a focus on quality and experience. My motto is, “If It Ain’t Fresh… It Ain’t Me,” and that standard carries into everything I do. Beyond barbering, I’m also an author of Mastering The Barber Mindset: A Guide to Success in the Barber Industry, where I share lessons about discipline, branding, professionalism, and success within the barber industry.
I’ve also expanded my creativity into wellness and grooming products, including sea moss-based concepts and natural self-care products designed to help people feel their best inside and out. At this point in my life and career, my mission is about more than barbering alone. It’s about inspiring others, building generational success, representing where I come from with pride, and showing the next generation that a trade can evolve into a powerful platform for entrepreneurship, impact, and legacy.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Like many entrepreneurs and creatives, my journey has come with a lot of challenges, setbacks, sacrifices, and lessons. Coming from Hollygrove, New Orleans, I didn’t grow up with a blueprint for entrepreneurship or business ownership. A lot of what I know today came from experience, trial and error, and staying committed even during difficult seasons.
One of the biggest struggles early on was simply learning how to transition from being just a talented barber into becoming a true businessman. A lot of barbers can cut hair, but understanding branding, customer retention, finances, marketing, professionalism, and consistency is a completely different skill set. There were times when I had to learn hard lessons about pricing my value, managing my time, and building a business that could actually grow instead of just surviving day to day.
Another challenge was remaining consistent through life changes and obstacles. The barber industry can be physically demanding and mentally exhausting. There are long hours, early mornings, late nights, and pressure to always perform at a high level because every client expects your best work every single time. On top of that, balancing family, personal growth, business goals, and creative ideas can become overwhelming if you don’t stay disciplined.
Relocating and rebuilding in new environments also taught me resilience. Building trust and a clientele takes time, patience, and dedication. There were moments where things moved slower than I wanted, but I kept reminding myself that success is built through consistency, not overnight results. Social media has also been both a blessing and a challenge. While it helped me showcase my work and connect with people, it can sometimes create pressure to constantly create content and keep up with trends while still running a business full-time.
Probably the biggest lesson throughout my journey has been learning to believe in myself even when results weren’t immediate. There were moments where things didn’t go according to plan, but every setback taught me something valuable. I’ve learned that growth often comes from uncomfortable situations, and every obstacle helped shape me into the barber, entrepreneur, and man I am today.
Looking back, I wouldn’t change the struggles because they gave me the mindset, discipline, and appreciation I have now. They taught me how to stay grounded, keep evolving, and continue building something meaningful not only for myself, but for my family, my clients, and the next generation coming behind me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a master barber, entrepreneur, author, and brand builder with more than 30 years of experience in the barber industry. I own and operate BFresh Lounge, where I provide premium grooming services focused on precision, professionalism, and creating a memorable experience for every client who sits in my chair.
I specialize in detailed blurry fades, razor-sharp line-ups, beard grooming, enhancements, and customized haircut experiences tailored to each individual client. Over the years, I’ve built a reputation for consistency, attention to detail, customer service, and making clients feel confident when they leave my chair. One of the areas I’m especially passionate about is Non-Surgical Hair Replacement services. Helping clients restore their confidence through modern hair replacement solutions has become one of the most rewarding parts of my work. Seeing someone look in the mirror and regain that sense of self-esteem and confidence is something that goes far beyond a haircut.
I’m also known for my ability to connect with people. Barbering is more than appearance to me — it’s about energy, trust, relationships, and understanding people from all walks of life. Many clients have become like family over the years because I genuinely care about the experience and not just the service itself. I believe that professionalism, consistency, and customer care are just as important as talent.
Beyond the chair, I’m proud to be an author of Mastering The Barber Mindset: A Guide to Success in the Barber Industry, where I share knowledge and encouragement for aspiring barbers and entrepreneurs who want to elevate themselves both personally and professionally. I’m also developing wellness and grooming products, including natural self-care concepts and sea moss-based products that align with my passion for helping people look and feel their best inside and out.
What sets me apart is my journey, my mindset, and the way I approach the craft. I didn’t just learn barbering — I lived it. From cutting hair as a kid in New Orleans to building a respected brand in Texas, every step taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of staying authentic. I combine old-school barber values like service, respect, and consistency with modern branding, social media, and entrepreneurship. I truly believe barbering can change lives, and I try to reflect that in every service, every conversation, and every opportunity I’m given.
What I’m most proud of is the impact. Knowing that my work has helped people feel more confident, inspired upcoming barbers, and created opportunities for my family and future means more to me than anything else. My goal has never been just to cut hair — it’s to leave a lasting impression and build a legacy through the craft I love.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I believe risk is a necessary part of growth. In my opinion, every meaningful step forward in life or business comes with some level of uncertainty. If you always stay comfortable, you usually stay in the same place. At the same time, I don’t believe in reckless risk-taking. I believe in calculated risks — making moves with faith, preparation, and a willingness to learn no matter what the outcome may be.
One of the biggest risks I took was betting on myself and turning barbering into a full-time career and business. For a long time, people didn’t always view barbering as a serious profession or long-term path to success. Choosing to fully invest in my craft, build my own brand, and pursue entrepreneurship required confidence and consistency, especially coming from an environment where opportunities were not always guaranteed. There were moments when things were uncertain financially, professionally, and personally, but I kept pushing because I believed in the vision.
Another major risk was relocating and rebuilding my clientele in a new environment. Starting over is never easy because relationships and trust take time to build. In the barber industry, your reputation means everything, so moving into a different market and establishing yourself again takes patience, humility, and determination. It forced me to step outside of my comfort zone and trust my work ethic, my customer service, and my ability to connect with people.
I also believe taking creative risks has helped me grow. Whether it’s building my social media presence, writing my book Mastering The Barber Mindset: A Guide to Success in the Barber Industry, expanding into wellness products, or offering Non-Surgical Hair Replacement services, every new idea required me to learn something different and put myself out there without knowing exactly how people would respond. But I’ve learned that growth usually happens when you’re willing to evolve instead of staying comfortable.
My perspective on risk has changed over the years. When I was younger, I thought risk was mostly about taking chances. Now I understand that the bigger risk is sometimes not trying at all. Staying stuck, ignoring your potential, or letting fear stop you can cost more in the long run than failing and learning from the experience.
At this stage in my life, I approach risk with faith, preparation, and purpose. I try to make decisions that align with my goals, my family, and the legacy I want to build. Every major accomplishment in my journey came from stepping into something unfamiliar and trusting that with consistency, discipline, and belief in myself, I could figure it out along the way.
