Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariel Graham.
Hi Ariel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I was 15 l started writing and recording music because I wanted to be a singer & performing artist, but I couldn’t afford to buy beats online at the time. So l downloaded Fruity Loops and started trying to make my own beats instead.
Eventually, I started uploading my beats and creative process to YouTube, and thats what really changed everything for me. I was able to build a fanbase online and that helped me create real opportunities for myself in the music industry.
I later moved to Los Angeles and sacrificed a lot to pursue music full time.
I worked different jobs & went homeless for about a year so I could build my own recording studio from scratch, and spent years creating in smaller spaces with talented artists and producers. Even without the million dollar setup or equipment, I was able to create amazing opportunities for myself through collaborating and believing in my vision which eventually led to winning a Grammy.
Now l produce, sing, songwrite, and create content with hopes to inspire others through showcasing my journey.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Being a woman in music can be complicated sometimes because you don’t always know who genuinely believes in your talent versus who just wants to be around you for other reasons. I’ve learned that not every opportunity is truly aligned, even if it looks good on the surface.
I also feel like as a female producer especially, you sometimes have to prove yourself a little more. People can either underestimate you or assume things come easier for you, but that really isn’t always the reality. I’ve had to learn how to trust my instincts, protect my creativity, and surround myself with people who actually care about the bigger picture and not just what they can gain from you.
At the same time, all of those experiences helped me grow thicker skin, become more intentional, and really understand my value as a creative.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a music producer, singer, songwriter, content creator, and creative entrepreneur. I’d say I specialize in blending music with storytelling and showing the real creative process behind what I do. A lot of people know me from YouTube because I built my platform by sharing my beat-making process and creativity online long before that became super common.
I’m most proud of being able to trust my vision & divine guidance to turn something I taught myself into a real career & create opportunities for myself independently. Winning a Grammy was obviously a huge moment for me, but honestly I’m just as proud of the community & relationships I’ve built through my work.
I think what sets me apart is that I’m not just one thing. I produce, sing, write, act, create / direct content, and build ideas from the ground up. I also think people connect with me because I’m very transparent about the journey & I don’t just show the highlights, but the real work, growth, and challenges behind it all.
How do you think about happiness?
Honestly creating makes me happy. Whether it’s making music, filming content, coming up with ideas, or helping other creatives with building their visions & feeling inspired, that’s when I feel the most like myself. I love the feeling of taking something that only existed in my head and turning it into something real that other people can connect to.
I’m also happiest when I feel free and aligned as well as being around genuine people, growing, traveling, laughing, learning more about myself / the human experience, and just experiencing life in a real way. I think for a long time I attached happiness to “making it,” but now I realize happiness is more about feeling fulfilled while you’re building.
