Community Highlights: Meet Megan Wells of Eras Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Wells.

Hi Megan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a family where mental health challenges were present, so I saw early on how deeply they can affect individuals and relationships. Those experiences shaped my understanding of both the struggles people face and the importance of having the right care and support.

In young adulthood, I went through my own personal challenges, which deepened my awareness of how isolating and overwhelming it can feel to navigate those experiences. That period became a turning point for me; it helped me truly understand the impact of effective support. I was fortunate to have an incredible therapist and treatment team who supported me in my own healing journey. Through that experience, I came to feel that if I could help even one person the way I was helped, every struggle I went through would be worth it.

That path led me to graduate school and professional work as a therapist, where I’ve focused on supporting children, adolescents, and adults through a range of concerns including anxiety, OCD, eating disorders, emotional dysregulation, and personality-related difficulties. Over time, I’ve also developed a strong passion for approaches like play therapy for children and individualized therapy for teens and adults that meet people where they are.

Eras Counseling grew out of that journey and intention—to create a space that feels grounded, supportive, and attuned to the reality that people are often carrying complex histories while trying to move forward. Today, my work is centered on helping clients make sense of their experiences and build healthier, more sustainable ways of coping and living.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. For most of my career, I worked as a therapist alongside my role as an educator. Teaching is an incredibly demanding profession in itself, and balancing that with clinical work often meant showing up to hold space for others at the end of long days and weeks, which could be exhausting at times.

There were seasons where managing both roles required a lot of energy, discipline, and intention around self-care and boundaries. But even in the more challenging periods, I’ve felt a strong sense of purpose in the work. Knowing I feel called to this field has consistently brought me back to my “why” and helped me stay grounded in the meaning behind what I do. Now, I just find I feel blessed to do this work and show up for others until they can show up for themselves.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Eras Counseling works with children, adolescents, and adults, with a focus on eating disorders, OCD, anxiety, self-esteem challenges, emotional regulation, and certain personality-related concerns. The approach is really about meeting people where they are—emotionally and developmentally—and tailoring therapy to fit the individual, rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

What tends to set Eras Counseling apart is a style that blends being direct and real with humor, warmth, and appropriate validation. Clients are supported in a way that feels caring and grounded, but also gently challenged when needed so they can actually grow, gain insight, and build real change. The goal is to create a space that feels both safe and honest where people can go deeper than just surface-level.

On a personal level, the name and brand are really meaningful to me. Eras Counseling is based on the idea that life is made up of different “eras,” each one shaped by growth, struggle, and change. That idea also connects to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour as Taylor’s music has always had a special place in my heart and life throughout my many “eras” so I loved getting to make a subtle nod to something so personal to me.

Overall, Eras Counseling is built on the belief that people aren’t defined by one version of themselves—they’re always evolving. Therapy is about supporting that process in a way that builds self-understanding, resilience, and forward movement.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I always thought I was shy because I kept to myself in certain settings. But even then, I had this feeling that I would actually be pretty extroverted if I was in the right environment. I was never the “popular” or “it girl” type, more just kind of in my own world and observant.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized I’m actually very extroverted and really enjoy being around people and feeding off that energy. Connection and conversation are something I genuinely thrive on.

I’ve also always been drawn to creative things—dance, reading, crafts, music. Those interests have honestly stuck with me my whole life. Even now, I still feel most like myself when I’m doing something creative or expressive.

At this point, anyone who knows me knows I love Taylor Swift, coffee, and anything creative. Those are kind of my consistent “comfort things” no matter what season of life I’m in.
