Hidden Gems: Meet Kristin Williams of Wonderfully Made Nutrition Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Williams.

Hi Kristin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I decided to become a registered dietitian after being diagnosed with an eating disorder at age 13 years old. Though I was diagnosed at age 13 years, my body image struggles began prior to that and my poor relationship with food would continue well into my late teen years and early twenties. During this time, my faith was an integral part of my life and would later play a role in my future career path.

Due to my own personal experiences, I decided to pursue a career as a dietitian and eventually became specialized in the treatment of eating disorders, opening up my own Christ-centered private practice in 2017.

In my practice, I help individuals to make peace with food using a non-diet approach and empower clients to see their body image struggles through a gospel-focused lens.

Though this work is hard and burn-out is common, I truly consider it the utmost honor and privilege to walk alongside others in some of the darkest and vulnerable times in their lives. Witnessing chains break and healing take place through the work of Christ is truly the most powerful experience!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been far from a smooth road! My journey has included multiple bumps along the way including not being hired for certain positions I had applied for, navigating the unknowns with starting a private practice, receiving pushback when incorporating my faith into my business and navigating my own relationship with food and body while showing up to support clients. Looking back, it has all been worth it to be where I am now!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Wonderfully Made Nutrition Counseling is a faith-based nutrition counseling practice in Dallas specializing in the treatment of eating disorders and disordered eating for adolescents as well as adults.

I have found that the foundational component of properly nourishing yourself is to first make peace with food. This involves letting go of rigid food rules and the diet mentality and learning how to trust your own internal hunger and fullness cues. I believe that part of good nutrition is enjoying your food and finding satisfaction in eating. I also believe that black and white thinking around food can lead to disordered eating.

In my practice, I use a non-weight focused approach where I work with individuals on making healthy behavioral changes and letting their weight fall where it will while empowering clients to accept and embrace their unique bodies. Through my “all foods fit” motto, I assist individuals in incorporating intuitive eating into their every day life, help them to find types of movement that are both enjoyable and social and encourage them to embrace a Health at Every Size® concept.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Witnessing clients experience freedom from food and body bondage brings me so much joy! I also find happiness from naps, reading, being present with my kiddos and taking a bubble bath!
