Life & Work with Beatriz Rico of Dallas-Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beatriz Rico.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My passion for animals began in childhood, where I often found myself caring for and attempting to rehome stray animals (it always got me in trouble with my parents lol).
I graduated from high school and never went to college. While I was trying to figure out what wanted for my future, I was working as a hostess. I eventually recognized my true calling was to combine my love for animals with a rewarding career.

This led me to pursue dog grooming, which I saw as both an artistic and fulfilling way to connect with animals. I attended Animal Behavior College, where I earned my certification after completing all the coursework and hours. It took some time to build my confidence and find my grooming style, but with lots of effort and a willingness to take on new challenges, I steadily developed my skills and always continue to keep educating myself in the pet stylists industry.

My career in animal care progressed from starting as a Kennel Technician at a dog hotel, where I gained valuable hands-on experience, to advancing into their grooming salon. After eight years of dedicated work and continuous growth, I embraced an opportunity to have my own independent grooming space through another company. This move has allowed me to manage my own schedule, set my own standards, and truly thrive in a role where I can fully apply my skills and passion. I’m incredibly proud of the professional I’ve become and the quality of care I provide to every animal.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey to becoming a groomer has been anything but smooth. There were alot of sweat and tears and moments where giving up felt like the easiest option.
Interestingly, there was a point when I never imagined myself grooming a poodle. Now, I not only own one but lovingly style her every month. She’s my “project poodle,” and a significant investment at that! She’s been a great model, and a wonderful addition to our family! I wouldn’t be where I am today without her.
Stepping out of my comfort zone was hard. Despite being certified for 10 years, I’ve only been actively grooming for the past 4 years.
As a self-proclaimed people-pleaser, I occasionally face the challenge of clients being disappointed or having to decline a request, saying “no” remains one of my toughest struggles.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a dedicated pet stylist, my passion is ensuring every furry client receives the best care tailored to their individual needs. I transform pets, leaving them looking clean, beautifully fluffed, and make them shine! My instagrams name is “Lunas cosmic cuts” and the slogan, “where every pet shines bright”. My services range from luxurious baths and refreshing blueberry facials to perfect blowouts, pawdicures, and precise body and face trims, all performed with the utmost love and gentle attention. I’m especially known for my patience with dogs new to grooming, those with anxiety, and our beloved senior companions. I specialize in Poodles and Doodles, a skill honed during my time in ‘Doodleville’ (Colleyville).
What sets me apart from others, unlike larger salons with multiple groomers and the potential for increased noise and stress, my space hosts a maximum of three dogs at a time. Most of the time I always only have one dog at a time. This ensures a calm environment where every pet can see me and never feels alone, making a truly personalized and stress-free grooming session.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I have way too many! They all revolve around the same thing though. I loved making dance routines with my sisters and cousins. We always came up with some kind of dance routine to any song on a burnt CD. One of my favorites was the dance routine we made to the song “bohemian rhapsody” by queen. We were tiny, like ages 9 to 12 doing this. We always performed it at every cookout our parents had. It was the dumbest dance routine that I still jokingly do till this day. I will never forget those moments of pure joy, I will always cherish them forever.
