Rising Stars: Meet Alex Nolasco of Dallas-Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Nolasco.

Hi Alex, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Music has always been a place where I have found I’m most at peace and comfort. As just a listener and lover of all genres, I would usually curate playlists for myself and sometimes friends growing up but I always had the want and really felt a need to contribute or do more to this thing that I loved. So I picked up the guitar and played off and on in my teenage years, then in 2020 took up trying to learn the piano and learning the guitar more seriously. I would post my progress on social media and then it wasn’t till early 2023 where I tried to write my own songs. It wasn’t till April 2025 where I performed in front of people for the first time at my first open mic and it’s been a “all gas and no brakes” mentality ever since.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been smooth in certain aspects. I’m very blessed to have had the Dallas scene be so communal and welcoming to me. The people and connections I have met have led to the most wonderful experiences of collaborations and friendships that I know will last a long time. I really have felt that I have found my people in a way I can barely describe. The struggles have really been adjusting to new surroundings and the learning experiences that come with this craft. It’s daunting but very exciting and fun at the same time, and I know I can only go up from here.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a musician/singer-songwriter based in the Dallas Area, I try to blend a fusion of the Blues, R&B, Soul and Rock genres into a sound that’s timeless yet still personal. Inspired by the voices of Sam Cooke, James Brown, Ray Charles and the classic Motown era, to more modern voices like Hozier, Kaleo, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Lauryn Hill, Prince, D’Angelo, and Teddy Swims, I pair mostly groove driven instrumentation and powerful vocals to evoke a a combo of emotion. My writings are mainly of either love or self reflection mostly, but I always try to be open and honest in no matter what I write.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I view myself as a calculated risk-taker, or just really chronic over thinker, whether or not it’s some form of anxiety with me I do not know haha. However whatever you think the outcome of a certain situation is know I’ve already read it and imagined it in all the ways/outcomes it can be realistically imagined. Do I think I’ve taken any major risks? I don’t know if I’m honest, I feel even just to be in this field itself is a major risk probably, I mean you bet on yourself and your own ability each time you perform, record, write, play anything but that’s the thrill of it even if you are afraid or anxious. You usually end up surprising yourself on what you can do, I know for sure that’s happened plenty of times with me.
