Daily Inspiration: Meet Natasha Turner, LCSW-S

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natasha Turner, LCSW-S.

Hi Natasha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I recognized a significant gap in access to high-quality, culturally responsive mental health services for African American individuals in my community. In response, I founded my practice to provide therapy that is relatable, relevant, and affirming—care that truly understands and addresses the unique experiences of women of color. While women of color remain our primary specialty, we are committed to serving individuals from all backgrounds with compassionate, effective, and culturally competent care.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not always been a smooth road, but it has been incredibly rewarding. One of the biggest challenges has been building a strong foundation for the business by developing policies and procedures that protect the organization while remaining transparent, client-centered, and aligned with our values. Another challenge has been finding high-quality professionals who share our mission and commitment to providing culturally responsive, compassionate care. Despite these obstacles, each challenge has helped us grow stronger and better serve our community.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At Over the Horizon Counseling and Consulting, we provide virtual therapy services for women, couples, adolescents, and adults across Texas, Florida, South Carolina, and Vermont. Our mission is to help clients find greater balance, connection, joy, and confidence as they navigate life’s challenges.

We specialize in supporting women through motherhood and postpartum transitions, anxiety, people-pleasing behaviors, trauma recovery, and relationship concerns. We also offer EMDR therapy, an evidence-based approach that helps individuals heal from trauma and distressing experiences on a deeper level. Our work is tailored to each client’s unique needs, recognizing that no two people or journeys are the same.

What I am most proud of is creating a practice that provides compassionate, culturally responsive care in a safe and supportive environment where clients feel seen, heard, and understood. We are known for our collaborative approach and for helping clients move from feeling overwhelmed and stuck to experiencing greater clarity, confidence, and hope.

What sets us apart is our commitment to personalized care. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, we work alongside each client to develop strategies and solutions that fit their individual experiences and goals. Our virtual model also allows us to provide accessible, high-quality care while maintaining the warmth, connection, and effectiveness of an in-person therapeutic relationship.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was always a caring and compassionate person who genuinely enjoyed helping others. I was naturally curious about people, their experiences, and what motivated them. Friends and family often came to me when they needed someone to listen, and I found fulfillment in being a source of support and encouragement.

I’ve always had a strong sense of empathy and a desire to make a positive impact, which ultimately led me to a career in mental health. I was also driven, determined, and passionate about creating opportunities and solutions where I saw unmet needs. Those qualities have continued to shape who I am today as both a therapist and business owner.

My interests have always centered around personal growth, relationships, community, and helping people reach their full potential. Looking back, many of the characteristics that define my work today—compassion, advocacy, resilience, and a commitment to helping others heal and thrive—were present from an early age.
