Hi Monica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Woodsy Floral was founded by accident believe it or not. Flowers have always been a part of my husband and I’s marriage.
Every Friday or every other Friday my husband, Lonnie would go get fresh stems from the floral shop down the road from our house.
The first time he went in and asked for not an arrangement but just random flower stems, they looked at him a little funny, but they gave it to him.
Time after time he would go in and grab a couple of this and a couple of these and a little greenery. Whatever Lonnie thought would look good together.
Well then, he would bring me home these stems and I would make arrangements. I would put a little here and a little there and our house would be filled with flowers. Which to me brought such joy to our little home.
This turned into me making arrangements for our events, we hosted a baby shower and of course, had to have floral arrangements for it.
When some of our friends saw these floral arrangements, they asked if we could make more for their events. We had one friend that owns a wedding venue, she brought up becoming a vendor for her brides.
I thought this idea was crazy, I mean these arrangements were for me and I couldn’t see myself as a florist.
I am just a girl that loves to make them. Well after a little bit of pressuring from Lonnie, we attended her open house as a floral vendor and LOVED IT.
This was a little over 4 years ago and we praise the Lord for how far we’ve come.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Lonnie and I were both working full time, going to school full time, and had a newborn when we started the company. We experienced some growing pains about 6 months in and decided to take the leap of faith and Lonnie quit his full time job to grow the business.
Growth has probably been our biggest struggle and keeping faith that in the slow times it’s just a season.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Woodsy Floral & Coffee Co?
We started predominantly in the wedding and event floral world. Within 2-3 years we started being more heavy into the everyday floral arrangements and that is when we moved shop to downtown midlothian. We focalize in the bespoke floral arrangements for any and all occasions. With the addition now of mobile and in house craft coffee. We also offer small event space rent out that captures our in house ambience.
Any big plans?
We want to continue to expand while focusing on the quality of flowers and coffee.
