Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Bradford.
Hi Emily, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The Empress House is a Mahjong Social club in McKinney TX. It opened in May as a place to build community through the wonderful game of Mahjong.
Emily Bradford found the game of mahjong in February of 2025 and fell in love! Playing multiple times a week and building an amazing community of friends. Emily knew that downtown McKinney needed a Mahjong house. She found a space on the square and The Empress House was born. The Empress House offers a salon experience that is all inclusive hostesses are available to assist for guided play. Beverages and snacks are served at every session. We’ve only been open for six weeks and already the excitement is palpable. Our hope is to create a community of friends that love the game of Majong.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is actually been a very smooth road from the time we decided to start The Empress House in February 2026 to its opening in May. We hit very few roadblocks. It has been fun to design the space with a vision of a Paris salon. Our soft opening in early May was amazing. Over 200 people came through the space.

Mahjong is sweeping the country right now. We are the first Mahjong studio in North Dallas. You can come and learn the game or you can come and make friends by playing during open play.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I think the most important lesson I’ve learned along this journey is to do what you love. I love the game of Mahjong and I’m so excited to bring it to the community.
