Hidden Gems: Meet Alaa Saffouri of Saffouri Legacy Insurance Agency

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alaa Saffouri.

Hi Alaa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey into the insurance industry began in 2017, I experienced firsthand how confusing insurance and many financial products can be for individuals and families trying to build a life in a new country. I noticed that many people, especially within immigrant communities, were purchasing insurance without fully understanding their coverage, exclusions, or how to protect themselves properly.

That realization inspired me to build a career centered on education, trust, and service rather than simply selling policies.

After several years of working in the insurance industry and gaining experience with different products and carriers, I founded Saffouri Legacy Insurance Agency in 2023. What started as a small agency with a simple mission has grown into a trusted resource serving thousands of clients across Texas.

Today, at Saffouri Legacy Insurance Agency we help individuals, families, and business owners with auto, home, commercial insurance solutions. We proudly serve clients in multiple languages, including English, Arabic, Russian and Spanish, allowing us to reach communities that are often underserved or overlooked.

Beyond insurance, I am passionate about education and community outreach. I co-host a podcast called “Immigrant Diaries” (يوميات مغترب), where we discuss topics such as insurance, real estate, business, taxes, and the challenges immigrants face while building their lives in America. The goal is to provide practical information that helps people make informed decisions and avoid costly mistakes.

Today, I am grateful for the relationships we’ve built and the opportunity to serve our community. Looking ahead, my vision is to continue expanding our services, growing our team, and making insurance more accessible to families and business owners throughout Texas and beyond.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s true for most small business owners.

When I started, I didn’t have a large team, a big budget, or a long list of clients. Everything had to be built one step at a time. There were plenty of days when I was wearing multiple hats—helping clients, handling paperwork, answering calls, solving problems, and marketing all at the same time.

One of the biggest challenges was building trust. Insurance is a business where people need to feel confident that you’ll be there when they need help, and earning that trust takes time. As the agency grew, I also had to learn how to manage growth, build a team, and adapt to changes in the insurance industry.

There have been stressful moments and setbacks along the way, but every challenge taught me something valuable. Looking back, I’m actually grateful for those experiences because they helped me grow both personally and professionally.

What kept me going was knowing that the work we do truly helps people. Whether it’s helping a family protect their home, a new driver get insured, or a business owner protect what they’ve built, those moments remind me why I started in the first place.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Saffouri Legacy Insurance Agency is a Texas-based insurance agency that helps people protect the things they’ve worked hard for. We work with individuals, families, and business owners to find coverage for their auto, home, business insurance needs.

What I believe sets us apart is the way we treat our clients. We don’t see people as policy numbers or transactions. We take the time to listen, understand their situation, explain their options, and help them make the best decision for themselves and their families.

A big part of our business is serving immigrant and multicultural communities. Being able to help clients in English, Arabic, Russian and Spanish has allowed us to connect with people who often feel overlooked or confused by the insurance process. Many of our clients come to us not just because they need insurance, but because they want someone they can trust and communicate with comfortably.

What I’m most proud of is the relationships we’ve built. Many of our clients have become friends, and most of our growth has come from referrals. When someone sends their family member, friend, or business partner to us, that means a lot because it shows they trust us.

We also try to go beyond insurance. Through our podcast, social media, and community involvement, we share information about insurance, homeownership, business, and other topics that can help people make better decisions. My goal has always been to educate first and sell second.

At the end of the day, I want people to know that we genuinely care about the people we serve. We’re here to answer questions, provide guidance, and help our clients protect what matters most to them. That’s what our brand is built on, and that’s something I’m very proud of.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was very family-oriented. I always enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and those relationships have remained one of the most important things in my life. Even today, no matter how busy work gets, I try to make time for family because that’s what keeps me grounded.

I was also a big soccer fan. I loved playing, watching, and being around the sport. Soccer taught me a lot about teamwork, discipline, competition, and perseverance. It’s something I’ve continued to enjoy throughout my life, and I’ve even had the opportunity to coach youth soccer and help young players develop both on and off the field.

Personality-wise, I was social, outgoing, and always enjoyed meeting new people. I liked hearing people’s stories, learning from different experiences, and building connections. Looking back, those traits probably played a big role in why I enjoy working with people and helping them today.

I wasn’t someone who had every step of life planned out. I learned through experience, worked hard, took opportunities when they came, and tried to keep moving forward. I think that mindset helped shape both my personal life and my approach to business.
