Check Out Yuliia Cunningham’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yuliia Cunningham.

Hi Yuliia , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my career as a hairstylist more than 30 years ago in Ukraine. From the very beginning, I fell in love not only with hair, but with the art of helping women see their beauty, individuality, and confidence in a new way.

Over the years, I developed my own approach to beauty through experience, creativity, and deep attention to detail. I specialize in color, precision haircuts, and personalized image design. As a stylist, I believe that hair should reflect a woman’s personality, lifestyle, face shape, features, and natural beauty — not just trends. I especially love working with shape, balance, and creating looks that feel elegant, modern, and effortless for each individual woman.

In 2021, I moved to the United States and had to rebuild my life and career from the beginning in a completely new country. I did not speak English fluently, had to study cosmetology terminology again, pass professional exams in a new language, and adapt to an entirely different culture and professional environment. I also had to learn how to drive for the first time in my life, which was both stressful and empowering.

When I first arrived in the United States, I started by working with clients from my own community while learning how the American beauty industry worked from the inside. I rented a chair in a local salon near my home and immersed myself in a completely new environment. I listened carefully to how stylists communicated with clients, how salons operated, and how customer experience was created in American culture.

Step by step, as my confidence and language skills grew, I began working with American clients as well. Over time, I built a loyal clientele and eventually found my place in a beautiful private salon environment in Southlake, Texas, where I continue to create personalized experiences for women through hair, beauty, and connection.

What makes me most proud is not only my work itself, but the trust and relationships I build with my clients. For me, beauty is deeply connected to confidence, femininity, freedom, and self-expression — and I love helping women feel that within themselves.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
it definitely was not a smooth road.

When I moved to the United States, I had to start almost from zero in many ways, even though I already had decades of experience as a hairstylist. I had to adapt to a completely different culture, a different beauty industry, and a different language. One of the biggest challenges was that I did not speak English confidently at first. I also had to study again, pass exams, and prove my qualifications in a new country.

At the beginning, everything felt unfamiliar and sometimes even intimidating. I remember working in a salon near my home where I rented a chair and mostly worked with people from my own country. At the same time, I was quietly observing everything around me — how American salons worked, how stylists communicated with clients, how they presented themselves professionally. I listened carefully to the language, to the conversations, and little by little I started building confidence.

Another big challenge for me was learning how to drive in America. It may sound simple to some people, but for me it was a huge emotional step. There were many moments of fear, self-doubt, and uncertainty. But I kept moving forward.

I think one of the hardest things for immigrants — especially women — is not only rebuilding a career, but rebuilding belief in themselves. Many talented people give up because they become afraid to fail or afraid to start over.

What helped me was understanding that growth always begins outside of comfort. You do not need to be fearless — you just need to keep going, even when you are scared.

Today, when I look at my life, I feel proud not only of my professional success, but of the person I became through this journey. And if my story can inspire even one woman to believe in herself again, then sharing it is worth it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a hairstylist and beauty artist with over 30 years of experience. I specialize in customized hair color, precision haircuts, and creating shapes that enhance a woman’s natural beauty, individuality, and confidence.

I have always believed that great hair is not only about trends — it is about harmony. Every woman has a unique face shape, bone structure, personality, lifestyle, and energy. My work is to create a look that feels authentic to who she is, not simply copy a picture from the internet.

I am especially passionate about shape and form. I pay close attention to balance, movement, softness, and how the haircut grows out over time. I love creating colors that complement a woman’s skin tone, eyes, and personal style in a natural and elegant way.

What I am most proud of is the trust my clients place in me. Many women have been with me for years because they know I truly see them, listen to them, and care about helping them feel beautiful and confident — not only on the outside, but emotionally as well.

I think what sets me apart is the combination of technical precision, artistic vision, and emotional connection. For me, beauty is deeply personal. My goal is not to change a woman into someone else — it is to help her feel more like herself at her very best.
