Meet Kateryna Riabukha of Sweet Day Parties

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kateryna Riabukha.

Hi Kateryna, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Kateryna, and I moved to the United States from Ukraine in 2024.

I am a mom to an almost four-year-old son, and creating special celebrations has always been something I love. For years, I enjoyed decorating birthdays and family events, especially for my son. Every year I looked forward to creating something unique and memorable for his birthday, and over time I realized how much joy I found in bringing celebrations to life.

Friends and family often told me that I had a talent for creating beautiful party setups and encouraged me to turn it into a business. Their support gave me the confidence to take the next step and pursue something I truly enjoy.

Before moving to the United States, I worked in management and spent several years leading teams and helping businesses grow. Those experiences taught me responsibility, organization, problem-solving, and the importance of building strong relationships with people. Even though event decorating is a creative field, those skills help me every day as a business owner.

After moving to Texas, I decided to take a leap of faith and officially start Sweet Day Parties. It has been an exciting journey of learning, creating, and building something of my own. I continue to learn every day by watching educational videos, studying event design techniques, exploring new trends, and improving my skills.

One of the biggest reasons I had the courage to start this business was the support of my husband. From the very beginning, he believed in my vision, encouraged me to follow my dream, and reminded me not to give up when things felt difficult. Starting over in a new country can be overwhelming, and there were moments when I questioned myself, but he continued to support me, motivate me, and help me keep moving forward. His belief in me gave me the confidence to build something of my own.

As a mom, I understand how important celebrations are for families. Birthdays are more than just decorations — they become memories that children and parents will remember for years. That is what inspires me to put my heart into every setup I create. I treat every event as if I were decorating it for my own family because I know how meaningful those moments are.

One of the biggest challenges has been starting over in a new country. Leaving Ukraine and building a new life in the United States required courage, patience, and a willingness to keep learning. Starting a business from scratch while adapting to a new culture was not always easy, but it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

One of the things I am most grateful for is the support I have received along the way. My husband, family, friends, and local community have encouraged me from the beginning. Every kind word, recommendation, referral, and happy client reminds me why I started this journey.

Looking back, I am proud that I had the courage to begin. Sweet Day Parties started with a love for celebrating special moments and has grown into something much bigger than I imagined. Every event teaches me something new and motivates me to continue growing.

My goal is to become one of the trusted event decorating companies in the DFW area, known for beautiful, personalized celebrations and exceptional customer service. I hope to continue expanding my designs, growing my inventory, and helping even more families create unforgettable memories.

Moving to a new country gave me the opportunity to start over and follow a dream. Sweet Day Parties is the result of that dream — a business built from creativity, passion, hard work, family support, and a genuine love for bringing people together to celebrate life’s special moments.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has not been a completely smooth road.

Starting the business itself was actually easier than I expected. Registering the business and handling the paperwork went smoothly.

The bigger challenge has been building everything from the ground up in a new country. Since I am new to the area, I did not start with an existing client base. Every inquiry, booking, and recommendation has come through networking, social media, and word of mouth.

One thing I learned early on is that there are always unexpected delays. For example, I originally planned to launch my website much sooner, but document verification and other requirements have taken longer than expected. I am still waiting for that process to be completed.

Because of that, I decided to focus first on growing my presence through social media. I have been sharing my work online, connecting with local families, running advertisements, and even organizing a giveaway to introduce Sweet Day Parties to more people in the community.

While there have definitely been challenges, I see them as part of the learning process. Every step has taught me something new about running a business, and I am excited to continue growing. My goal is to build a company that families can trust when celebrating their most special moments.

Sweet Day Parties is a custom event décor company serving the DFW area. I specialize in balloon installations, backdrops, personalized event styling, baby showers, birthdays, and milestone celebrations.

My goal is to create beautiful and memorable setups that help families celebrate their special moments. Every event is customized to fit the client’s theme, colors, and vision rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.

Although Sweet Day Parties is still growing, my focus has always been on quality, reliability, and creating an experience that clients can enjoy without stress. I want families to know they can trust me to bring their vision to life and help create memories that will last long after the celebration is over.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is making the most of the time we have with the people we love.

Moving to a new country and starting over taught me not to take moments for granted. Life moves quickly, children grow up fast, and before we know it, special occasions become cherished memories.

That is why I believe celebrations are so important. They bring people together, create joy, and give families memories they can look back on for years. A birthday party is not just balloons and decorations — it is laughter, photos, traditions, and moments that become part of a family’s story.

I also believe in growth and having the courage to pursue your dreams, even when it feels uncomfortable. Starting my own business pushed me outside of my comfort zone, but it has also been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

If I can create something that makes a family smile, helps them celebrate a milestone, and gives them memories they will treasure, then I feel like I have done something meaningful.
