Life & Work with Becky Collazos of Dallas-Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Collazos.

Hi Becky, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I went to culinary school in Guatemala, where I learned international cuisine. While working in restaurants, I became fascinated by the pastry chefs creating beautiful sugar flowers and cake decorations, so I decided to focus on pastries and cakes instead.

After 20 years of experience, mostly at local bakeries in the Dallas area, I opened my own home-based custom bakery. It was one of the best decisions I’ve made because it allows me to focus on each client’s needs and manage my own time. As a mom of two and a singer-songwriter, I’m able to balance my family, music, and my passion for creating custom cakes and desserts.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey hasn’t always been easy. In 2016, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, and for about a year and a half, I had to step away from work and focus entirely on treatment and recovery.

Looking back, that experience changed my perspective on life and made me stronger in ways I never imagined. Today, I’m especially thankful to God for my healing and good health. That journey taught me to appreciate every opportunity, and I’m grateful to be able to do what I love every day.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in custom wedding cakes, celebration cakes, and desserts. What I enjoy most is sitting down with clients and bringing their vision to life. Every event is different, and I love working together to create something unique and meaningful for their special day.

I’m always excited by new challenges and enjoy incorporating current trends, designs, and techniques into my work. One of the most rewarding parts of what I do is seeing the reaction on a child’s face when they see their dream birthday cake, or watching a bride and groom see their wedding cake for the first time.

What sets me apart is my commitment to quality and personal service. I use high-quality ingredients and take the time to give each order the attention it deserves. I take pride in creating desserts that are not only beautiful but also delicious and memorable.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is creating meaningful moments for families and being part of their special celebrations. Whether it’s a wedding or birthday cake, I love knowing my work becomes a lasting memory.

As a Hispanic woman, mom, business owner, and ministry leader, I also want to be an example to my community—showing you can pursue your dreams while staying true to your values and culture.

Above all, I strive to lead with honesty, excellence, and faith.
