Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Back in 2018, I started creating content on YouTube and Instagram. I loved capturing memories, documenting life in a vlog-style format, and telling stories through visual content from travel adventures to life’s biggest moments. Storytelling has always been at the heart of what I do.
In 2022, two of my friends got married, and I captured behind-the-scenes footage throughout their wedding journeys using my phone. I shared the content through YouTube, Tik Tok & Instagram, and I did it so well that they constantly found themselves going back to relive those memories. I also learnt the skills of paying attention to important moments and editing during this season.
Fast forward to 2023, when a close friend messaged me and said, “Hey Essy, I have a business idea for you that you would be so good at.” That conversation became the beginning of Behind The Essence and my journey into event content creation which officially started on June 23rd 2023.
At the time, I didn’t know anyone in Dallas who was specifically creating content for events, but it was something I genuinely loved. In fact, even if I wasn’t getting paid, I would still have enjoyed doing it. Capturing moments and telling stories has been a passion of mine since I was a teenager.
Through Behind The Essence, I’ve been able to turn that passion into a brand dedicated to sharing behind-the-scenes content and preserving the essence of life’s most meaningful moments in a way that feels authentic, personal, and timeless.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been an easy road. When I started, I had just moved to Dallas and didn’t know anyone. I also didn’t know anyone who was doing event content creation at the time, so there wasn’t really a blueprint for me to follow. I had to create my own path, learn as I went, and trust the process. Looking back, I truly believe God guided me through every step of that journey.
One of the biggest challenges in the beginning was helping people understand the value of event content creation. I would often hear comments like, “Why should I pay you to use your phone?” Since it was still a relatively new concept, many people were skeptical, which was understandable.
Over time, the doubts, combined with the demands of life, became discouraging. I ended up stepping away from my business for nearly a year. In 2025, however, I felt the need to reignite my brand and fully commit to the vision again.
At times, I felt like I had missed out on opportunities and fallen behind in the industry during that season. But with consistency, perseverance, prayer and faith, I’ve been able to overcome those challenges.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an Event and Wedding Content Creator specializing in capturing meaningful moments at life’s biggest celebrations from weddings and baby showers to birthdays and more. My goal is to preserve memories through raw, authentic iPhone content, giving clients quick access to relive their day and experience moments they may have missed.
I’m most proud of how much I’ve grown over the past few years, both as a content creator and a business owner. From my editing and storytelling to my client experience and business systems, I’ve continuously worked to improve my craft and create an excellent brand.
What sets me apart is the way I immerse myself in my clients’ events. I approach every celebration as if I were a close friend or family member, allowing me to connect with the people, understand the significance of the occasion, and notice the details that matter most.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
First and foremost, my faith has played a huge role in my journey. Jesus has continually helped me grow by teaching me consistency, providing creative direction, inspiring new ideas, and guiding me as I build and improve my business. For that, I’m incredibly grateful.
My loved ones have also been an amazing support system. They’ve encouraged me, prayed for me, listened to my frustrations, offered constructive feedback, and constantly cheered me on. Their support has been a constant reminder that I’m on the right path and exactly where God wants me to be.
