Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Rawlinson.
Hi Rebecca, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Sparrow & Hue began with a simple belief: creativity isn’t reserved for a select few-it’s something every woman carries within her.
What started with paint, brushes, and a passion for making things by hand has grown into a space where fashion meets canvas. As an artist, educator, and creative entrepreneur, I saw how many women had quietly set aside their creative side while raising families, building businesses, working jobs, and caring for everyone else. Sparrow & Hue was created to give them permission to reconnect with that part of themselves when society told them not to.
The name itself reflects the heart behind the brand. The sparrow represents worth, purpose, and the reminder that even the smallest things matter. Hue speaks to color, joy, expression, and the way creativity can transform not only what we wear, but how we see ourselves.
Today, Sparrow & Hue is more than a boutique. It’s a place where curated fashion, wearable art, original artwork, workshops, and community come together. It’s where vintage fabrics become something new, where a plain hat becomes a story, where a pair of sneakers becomes a canvas, and where women discover they don’t need to be artists to create. It’s where we flock together.
At its core, Sparrow & Hue exists to empower creative women-to encourage them to stand confidently in who they are, embrace color and individuality.
Sparrow & Hue: Where fashion meets canvas, creativity meets community, and every woman is reminded that she is already enough.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Any artist can tell you their path wasn’t easy.
Behind every painting, collection, workshop, or business is a story filled with doubt, mistakes, risk, and perseverance. For me, the challenge hasn’t just been creating art-it’s been balancing the roles of artist, business owner, and mom while trying to stay true to who I am.
There are days spent creating and days spent managing. Days filled with inspiration and days filled with invoices, inventory, and responsibilities. On top of all of that, the rent is due. And somewhere in the middle of it all is the constant desire to grow while protecting the authenticity that made Sparrow & Hue what it is.
The truth is, creativity isn’t always glamorous and it’s not always in demand. It’s showing up when you’re tired. It’s continuing when things don’t go as planned. It’s making room for your passions in a life already full of demands.
But I’ve learned that the most meaningful things are rarely built on an easy path. They’re built one brushstroke, one lesson, one risk, and one small act of courage at a time and faith.
And if there’s one thing I hope women see when they walk into Sparrow & Hue, it’s that you don’t have to have it all figured out to create something meaningful.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a professional artist, educator, and owner of Sparrow & Hue. I specialize in large-scale floral paintings known for their bold color, rich texture, and expressive layers. Beyond fine art, I create wearable art, teach workshops, and help women reconnect with their creativity through fashion.
My work often blends art, fashion, and connection, whether it’s a canvas, a custom hat, a painted pair of sneakers, or a workshop where someone discovers their creative confidence for the first time.
What am I most proud of?
Honestly, it’s not any single painting or product.
I’m most proud of building a creative life and business that has stayed authentic to who I am. As a mom, artist, and business owner, I’ve learned to wear a lot of hats while continuing to create from the heart.
I’m proud that Sparrow & Hue has become more than a place to buy clothes. It’s become a space where women feel inspired, encouraged, and reminded that creativity belongs to them too.
The artwork matters. I love creating pieces filled with bold color, texture, and movement, and I take pride in the work I put into every canvas, workshop, and creative project.
But what I’m most proud of isn’t the artwork itself.
It’s seeing someone walk away feeling more confident than when they arrived and the connections we make along the way.
One of the phrases you’ll hear often in our shop is, “We don’t say that here.” It’s posted on the wall. It’s usually in response to a woman saying she’s not creative enough, not stylish enough, too old, too inexperienced, or that she could never pull something off.
We don’t say that here.
Because so many women spend their lives doubting themselves-their creativity, their instincts, their style, their ideas.
A big part of what I do isn’t teaching painting techniques or helping someone style an outfit. It’s helping women trust themselves again. Trust their eye. Trust their creativity. Trust the things that bring them joy.
Whether someone leaves with a painting, a new outfit, a custom hat, or simply a little more joy than they walked in with, that’s the real win for me.
The art is important. The fashion is fun. But watching a woman stop second-guessing herself and start believing in her own creative voice-that’s what I’m most proud of.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I’d be lying if I said I don’t do a little happy dance when I sell an original artwork. It’s an incredible feeling. As an artist, there’s something special about seeing a piece you’ve poured your heart into find its home.
But some of my favorite moments happen long before anyone makes a purchase.
I love hearing the conversations that happen as people walk through the shop. The comments about the colors, the stories, the laughter, or the moment someone says, “I never thought I could wear this.”
