Today we’d like to introduce you to Rain Tim.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been a professional tattoo artist since 2013. I did my apprenticeship at Aloha Tattoos in Cincinnati OH. In my early 20’s i truly thought that I would be a tattooer for the rest of my life.
Then Covid suddenly appeared. It changed the industry drastically. I quickly learned that tattooing is not an essential business. In fact, it is a luxury craft & bodily decoration.
Ive been quite the nomad since 2014. Eventually made my way to Dallas Texas, by 2022. I eventually gave multi level marketing & life insurance a try.
Through that trial & error, I became a content creater for one of the head honchos of the company. I actually started my camera career with an iphone.
Eventually upgraded to mirrorless cameras & higher identity clientele.
I was able to shoot & work with celebrities, artists, athletes & influencers. After some time I stepped away from the MLM & continue to use the camera.
Even though, I was not a fan of the culture or business model of the office. I did appreciate their way of storytelling & how it inspired others. I realized that my testimony is a blessing to others when I am truly vulnerable.
I can help capture & celebrate that same essence through my camera lens. Being an artist my entire life helped me catalyze my career because of my understanding of composition & unique angles.
I had no idea that using an iphone to get bts footage of an insurance broker, would lead me to private jets, celebrities, international travel, documentary work, fashion weeks all over the country & so on. I can only imagine what lies ahead in the next 5-10 years.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the struggles are definitely the clients. As an artist, I obviously want to tell the story “my way” but as a business, I do have to adhere to their demands, or compromise to find a middle ground.
Other clients can be quite demanding & borderline narcissistic. I quickly learned to identify those traits & will cease to do business with such people though.
There are so many businesses, people & events who want to utilize my skills with a camera & could only offer “good/more exposure” as compensation as well.
I have done far too many “exposure” shoots and no longer need them for my portfolio.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in higher level story telling. I have been studying (self taught) photography & cinematography since 2008 or so.
I am currently known as a celebrity/fashion photographer/videographer. But that isn’t what i want to be known for. I just dipped my toe into the world of film making & just shot my first documentary in India & Nepal.
I am most proud of that documentary. Even though I did not edit the footage. I am blessed to know that my footage will help create awareness & help these non profits receive more donations.
What sets me apart from others, is that I have been an artist & Jackie Chan of all trades my entire life. I’ve noticed that some people without artistic backgrounds acquire a camera & then claim to be a “content creator”
Where i see myself as an artist. The tool is arbitrary. It can be a tattoo machine, a camera, a spray paint can, a pencil or paint brush. I will make art with these hands.
How do you think about happiness?
Life.
Ive been on a sober journey almost 2 years now. And i genuinely love experiencing life as it is!
Increasing my awareness to the subtleties to the world around me is quite an honor. What a privilege it is to be alive
I feel truly blessed to be able to travel & see life through eyes of wonder & joy. It could be seeing both the Atlantic & Pacific Ocean, in the same day, while flying private, a bird bathing in a pothole in Central Park, or the Dallas Skyline at night, I am genuinely filled with awe & amazement.
