Daily Inspiration: Meet Trevor Lambert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trevor Lambert.

Hi Trevor, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Found It Electronics & Video Games was founded in 2011 by Dawn Jackson. With a background in fashion merchandising and a lifelong connection to gaming through her father’s arcade business, she envisioned a different kind of video game store. As a collector herself, she recognized the growing interest in retro gaming and wanted to create a space that was clean, organized, family-friendly, and focused on both games and collectibles.

From the beginning, the goal was to offer a welcoming environment supported by strong customer service and a constantly evolving selection. As interest in retro gaming grew, so did the business.

I’ve been with Found It for over a decade and have had the opportunity to watch that growth firsthand. Today, the store serves customers throughout DFW and beyond, and we continue to build on the original vision as we move into our next chapter.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like most small businesses, the journey has come with its share of challenges. Found It was started without bank loans or outside investors, which meant it was entirely self-funded by Dawn. That required careful decision-making from day one and left very little room for error in the early stages.

As demand for retro gaming and collectibles increased, the business had to scale quickly while maintaining its standards. Growth brought challenges such as managing a larger inventory, building and training a team, and preserving the customer experience that helped establish the store’s reputation.

That growth included moving from the original storefront, and later expanding again into a 3,000-square-foot space. We are now preparing for another major milestone with an upcoming move into a 6,100-square-foot location in North Richland Hills on June 27.

Each stage of growth has required adaptation, but it has also strengthened the business and allowed us to better serve our customers.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Found It specializes in buying, selling, and trading video games, electronics, and collectibles. Our inventory spans everything from classic Atari and Nintendo titles to modern PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch systems. We also carry Pokémon cards, plushies, anime merchandise, pins, keychains, pop culture collectibles, as well as electronics such as laptops, desktops, handheld gaming PCs like the Steam Deck and ROG Ally, and VR headsets.

What sets us apart is the emphasis on presentation and experience. The store is designed to be clean, organized, and easy to browse, creating a family-friendly environment where customers can take their time and discover something new. That approach, combined with a constantly changing inventory, brings in both regular customers and visitors from outside the DFW area.

What I’m most proud of is the relationships we’ve built over the years. Many of our customers have become long-term regulars, and it’s incredibly rewarding to help someone reconnect with a piece of their childhood or finally find something they’ve been searching for.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is seeing the reaction when a customer finds something meaningful to them. Whether it’s a game they grew up with, a collectible they thought was lost to time, or something new that sparks their interest, those moments are what make the work rewarding.

I’ve always had a genuine passion for video games, both classic and modern, so being surrounded by that every day is something I value. I also appreciate the relationships we’ve built with our customers and the sense of community that has developed over time.

A big part of why I’ve stayed with Found It is the culture Dawn has created. She cares deeply about her team and has built an environment where employees feel supported, which naturally extends into the customer experience.

At the end of the day, it’s the people who make the job meaningful. Whether it’s a customer rediscovering an old favorite or a new generation discovering retro gaming for the first time, those moments are what keep me motivated.
