Conversations with Lauren Torres

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Torres.

Hi Lauren, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Being a creative young lady growing up I knew I always had to do something with my hands. From being the girl in middle school who created a club house to give my friends make overs from school! To packing my straightener in my backpack to do my friends hair. I graduated in 2010 followed up with beauty school. Graduated from Regency Beauty School. I’ve been in the industry 15 years and love what i do every single day! Today I am a mom of 2 girls still enjoying the process everyday of showing up to do the 2 things I love, hair and being a mom. I am located inside Image Studios Richardson. Being an independent allows he to have flexibility for my girls as well as flexibility for my clients. I have a beautiful window room and a calm cozy aesthetic.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
1 year out of hair school I decided to become an independent stylist. With no idea on how to grow and keep a clientele I stayed consistent and always did my best to deliver a beautiful result. By the grace of god I have been an independent stylist ever since. Growing and learning business, from keeping the social media alive and learning all I needed to sustain myself as I grew.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a hairstylist, hair artist if you will. I enjoy coloring and bringing joy to women. Making them feel confident and having great girl talk behind the chair. I would say I specialize in layered haircuts and balayage/lightening on darker base hair. I enjoy all tones. Custom colors for all my clients is the goal, beautiful tones that compliment the skin and face.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success for me is measured in a number of ways. Some days it’s a great day just by sharing familiar stories and connecting. Knowing we are all in this together. Listening and being there for one another. Sparking joy to a wife, mom or friend who hasn’t been able to make that self care time for themselves. I always thank them! Not only for giving me the honor of doing their hair, but for showing up for themselves at this particular moment in time. Because life can happen but when we pour into us. Seeing that I’m glad i booked this appointment feeling, smiling, hugs as we say “see you next time” that’s a successful day.
Now imagine many many days like this. That’s a win!
