Daily Inspiration: Meet Billy Mitchell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Billy Mitchell.

Hi Billy , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been in the music industry since 2010 when I moved to Dallas from a small town called Paris, Texas. I got my start in the industry with Myron Williams. He saw something in me and heard something in my voice that I didn’t hear or recognize. I became known in the the music community because I was hungry for different sounds and worship experiences. I supported every artist artist I could in the Dallas Fort Worth area. I tried my best to make every event support every artist by all the music not to be noticed, but because I had a curiosity for independent gospel music that I didn’t have before. I took every opportunity serious. I can remember being a teenager and young adult, listening to my favorite gospel artist and learning their music as if I would have the opportunity to sing for them one day. And it happened. Faithful to my local church, faithful to Christ and my love for worship got me to where I am today.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been an easy journey. The music industry, rather gospel or secular is very unpredictable. Starting out, I suffered with comparison and imposter syndrome. Trying to find my place on the music scene while trying to appreciate my own vocal stylings in such a big city was extremely intimidating. I decided to study my craft and focus on worship and my relationship with God rather than compare my vocal ability to everyone else. Of course, there were other things that life presented that added struggle to this journey, like having a passion for music, but having to commit to a different career to support my music. I survived divorce, embarrassment, shame, ridicule, misunderstandings, but Romans 8:28 reminds us that all things work together for the good of them who loved the Lord. The journey is hard but worth it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a gospel artist/singer. I believe I’ve known for my charismatic and sincere worship. I am also founder of Miracle Music Productions, which is my publishing and production company that I’ve been blessed to release my music under. I am proud of all of the opportunities that the Lord has allowed me to be a part of in 2020. I started to work with Kirk Franklin and through his generosity. I’ve had the opportunity to work with artist, both gospel and secular that was only a dream before our crossing paths. But I am most proud of the longevity that I’ve experienced in this industry. I think what sets me apart from other artist and gospel artist is my desire for unity and a shared platform amongst musicians. I am currently working on a project called the Dallas worship collective. We have over 95 singers and worship leaders in DFW area that are currently participating.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I believe you are successful when you can impact others by doing what you love
