Today we’d like to introduce you to Ronda Swanigan.
Hi Ronda, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My passion for education and student success began growing up in South Central Los Angeles, where I witnessed firsthand how education could open doors, change trajectories, and create opportunities that might not otherwise exist. That passion led me to a career in school counseling and college access, where I spent more than a decade helping students and families navigate the journey to higher education.
Throughout my career, I saw that many students had the talent and potential to succeed but often lacked the guidance and resources needed to fully access the opportunities available to them. I became committed to helping families better understand the college admissions process, scholarship opportunities, and how to make informed decisions about their future.
That commitment eventually led me to entrepreneurship. Today, I am a multi-unit owner of Class 101 locations in Texas, Georgia, and California, where I have built teams dedicated to helping students discover their best-fit colleges, maximize scholarship opportunities, and prepare for life after high school. What began as a desire to help individual students has grown into the opportunity to impact families across multiple communities.
One of the accomplishments I am most proud of is the success of the students we serve. In our most recent graduating class of more than 100 seniors, students earned over $29 million in scholarships, and 98% were accepted to one of their top three college choices. Seeing students achieve goals they once thought were out of reach continues to be one of the most rewarding parts of my work.
Today, my work combines education, leadership, impact, and entrepreneurship. Whether I am working directly with families, mentoring my team, speaking to community organizations, or building new partnerships, my mission remains the same: helping students unlock opportunities, reach their full potential, and build a future they are excited about.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it definitely has not been a smooth road, but I have learned that growth rarely is.
Like many entrepreneurs, I started with a passion for helping people, not a background in running a business. Transitioning from school counselor to business owner required me to learn an entirely new set of skills, including sales, marketing, finance, operations, hiring, and leadership. There were many moments when I questioned myself and wondered whether I was making the right decisions.
One of the biggest challenges has been balancing entrepreneurship with being present for my family. As a wife and mother of two, there have been seasons when I was building a business, leading a team, and serving families while also trying to be fully present for the people I love most. That balancing act is something many entrepreneurs understand. There are days when it feels like you’re being pulled in multiple directions at once.
As my business grew, I also had to learn how to trust others, delegate responsibilities, and let go of the belief that I had to do everything myself. Some of my greatest lessons have come from setbacks, mistakes, and situations that did not go according to plan. Looking back, those moments taught me far more than the easy seasons ever did.
What has carried me through every challenge is my purpose. Every time I see a student earn a scholarship, receive an acceptance letter, or accomplish something they once thought was out of reach, I am reminded why I started this journey. Those moments make every obstacle worthwhile.
The road has not been easy, but it has been meaningful. Every challenge has strengthened my faith, deepened my resilience, and helped shape me into a better leader, business owner, and person.
We’ve been impressed with Class 101 Irving, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At my core, I help students and families navigate one of the most important decisions of their lives: planning for life after high school. Through my educational consulting work, I specialize in college admissions, scholarship strategy, career exploration, and helping families create personalized plans that align with both their goals and financial realities.
What sets me apart is that I have spent my entire career working directly with students and families, first as a school counselor and college access professional, and now as an entrepreneur. That experience allows me to understand not only the college admissions process, but also the unique needs, goals, and challenges that families face along the way.
One of the things I am most proud of is the partnerships I have built with schools, nonprofits, and community organizations to provide college planning services to students who might not otherwise have access to them. Many of these students come from underserved, underrepresented, first-generation, foster care, or housing-insecure backgrounds. Through these partnerships, we have been able to expand access to college planning resources and provide meaningful support to students and families as they pursue their educational goals.
While the outcomes are certainly rewarding, what brings me the greatest joy is watching students discover what is possible for their future. Whether it is earning a scholarship, receiving a college acceptance, or finding a college that is the right fit, those moments are incredibly meaningful for both students and their families.
If there is one thing I want readers to know, it is that college planning is about much more than completing applications. It is about helping students gain confidence, explore opportunities, and create a vision for their future. I am passionate about helping students identify their strengths, pursue their goals, and make informed decisions that position them for long-term success.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I would not describe my journey as a result of luck. If anything, I would describe it as a combination of God’s grace, resilience, dedication, and the incredible people He has placed in my life along the way.
There have been many moments throughout my career and entrepreneurial journey when the path forward was uncertain. I’ve faced challenges, setbacks, disappointments, and seasons where things did not go according to plan. In those moments, I leaned heavily on my faith. Looking back, I can see how God was working even when I couldn’t understand what He was doing at the time. Some closed doors ultimately led to better opportunities, and some of the most difficult seasons became the experiences that prepared me for future success.
I also believe that faith does not replace hard work. I have always been willing to put in the work, continue learning, take risks, and remain committed to my purpose even when the outcome was not guaranteed. Success rarely happens overnight. It is often the result of years of consistency, resilience, and showing up when no one is watching.
Another important part of my journey has been the relationships I’ve built along the way. I’ve been blessed with mentors, colleagues, partners, friends, and supporters who have encouraged me, challenged me, and opened doors that I could not have opened on my own. Those relationships have been invaluable, and they remind me that we are not meant to do life or business alone.
Today, when people look at the accomplishments, the businesses, or the impact, they may see success. What I see is evidence of God’s faithfulness. I am grateful for every opportunity, every lesson, and every person who has been part of the journey. My story is not one of luck. It is a story of faith, perseverance, and trusting God through every season.
