Today we’d like to introduce you to Mandi Robertson.
Hi Mandi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in a family business that my brother and I eventually purchased from our parents. While I was grateful for everything it had provided, there came a point when I realized it no longer aligned with the life I wanted to create. Selling my share marked the beginning of a season of reinvention—one that challenged me to redefine what fulfillment and purpose truly meant.
Over the next two years, I traveled extensively throughout the United States, embracing a slower pace of life and giving myself the space to reflect on what came next. From time spent in places like Lake Tahoe to exploring new communities and perspectives, travel became more than a change of scenery—it became a catalyst for personal growth.
That journey eventually led me to Costa Rica, where an ayahuasca experience became a meaningful catalyst for deep reflection and encouraged me to let go of what no longer served me. It inspired me to create a life that felt more intentional and aligned with who I was becoming.
What began as a personal journey eventually led me to purchase a home in Costa Rica, which later became a short-term rental. More importantly, it deepened my appreciation for the way travel has the power to transform us—not just by showing us new places, but by changing our perspective.
Today, I’m a travel advisor who believes the best trips are about more than checking destinations off a list—they’re about creating meaningful experiences, deeper connections, and lasting memories.
Alongside my travel business, I also provide house sitting and pet sitting services. While those businesses may look different on the surface, they’re all rooted in the same values: trust, service, and caring for what matters most.
My life looks very different today than I once imagined, and I’m grateful for that. I’ve learned that some of the most meaningful journeys aren’t measured in miles—they’re measured by how they change us. That belief shapes not only the way I live, but also the way I hope to serve every client.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth? Not even close.
The biggest challenge wasn’t simply starting a new business—it was reinventing myself. After spending years in a family business that had become a significant part of my identity, I found myself asking, “Who am I without it?”
One of the hardest decisions I made was selling my home, putting most of my belongings in storage, and embracing a more unconventional lifestyle while I figured out what I wanted the next chapter of my life to look like. It was exciting at times, but it also came with uncertainty, financial risk, and plenty of moments of self-doubt.
I’m still building my travel business, and that comes with its own challenges. Like many entrepreneurs, there are days when progress feels slow and the path forward isn’t always clear. But I’ve learned that building something meaningful takes time, patience, and a willingness to keep showing up, even when the results aren’t immediate.
The hardest part wasn’t starting over—it was believing that starting over was okay. Looking back, I wouldn’t call the journey smooth, but I would absolutely call it worthwhile. Every challenge has helped shape the person I’m becoming, and I wouldn’t trade the lessons I’ve learned along the way.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Today, I wear a few different hats, but they all share the same purpose: helping people feel cared for and giving them peace of mind.
As a travel advisor, I specialize in creating meaningful travel experiences rather than simply booking vacations. I believe the best trips don’t just take us somewhere new—they give us the opportunity to slow down, connect, and return home with a new perspective. My own journey has shaped the way I approach travel, and I enjoy helping clients create experiences that are intentional, memorable, and deeply personal.
Alongside my travel business, I’ve built a house and pet sitting business and also manage vacation rental properties in both Texas and Costa Rica. Whether I’m helping someone plan an unforgettable journey, caring for their home and pets, or ensuring guests have an exceptional stay, my focus is always the same: creating experiences built on trust, service, and genuine care.
What sets me apart is that I don’t see my work as simply providing a service. Whether I’m planning a journey across the world or caring for someone’s home while they’re away, my goal is the same: to help people feel supported, cared for, and free to enjoy what matters most. I’m most proud of building businesses that reflect my values of trust, connection, and service.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think the most important quality has been a willingness to embrace reinvention.
Life has taught me that we’re constantly growing, and sometimes that means letting go of what once felt comfortable in order to make room for what’s more aligned with who we’re becoming. Reinvention isn’t a one-time event—it’s an ongoing process of listening to yourself, staying open to change, and trusting that each experience is shaping you in meaningful ways.
I’m still building my travel business, still learning, and still growing. But I’ve learned that success isn’t about having everything figured out or reaching a particular destination. For me, success is creating a life that’s aligned with my values, allows me to serve others, and gives me the freedom to keep growing.
Travel played a significant role in that journey. It changed my perspective, challenged me to see the world—and myself—differently, and reminded me that growth often happens when we step outside what’s familiar. That’s why I believe some of the most meaningful journeys aren’t measured in miles—they’re measured by how they change us.
If I can help others experience that same sense of connection, perspective, and possibility through travel or simply provide peace of mind while they’re away from home, then I feel I’m doing meaningful work.
